Geez Skip, ^^ sounds like a challenge.

Without looking it up, my best guesses are #12 Tom Brady / #33 Larry Bird.  But the best I can come up with for #8 is Yogi Berra???

Well done, Young Jedi. #8 is Carl Yazstremski (and the mere mention of Berra, though he was certainly an entertaining and colorful character, is insulting hereabouts. He was, after all, a Yankee). One could argue that it should be #9 (Ted Williams) but he's within living memory as a player for only a handful these days. We certainly remember the man, but mostly his legend, not his play.

As I noted above. And although Bucyk was indeed mighty in Beantown, and is still revered... c'mon, man. It's Bobby Orr!

Oh, and as we've moved onto the next page, time to make things decorative again.

From Old Canada Series >> my Facebook >> BHO:

"31 years ago today on Aug. 23, 1989, Montreal Expos mascot Youppi was ejected from the team's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 11th-inning ejection is believed to be the first time a mascot was thrown out of a baseball game."

He wasn't there long, but any team that has Spaceman Lee on it's roster gets a  yes  from me.

.... and here's another "one for the [history] books":  https://www.reuters.com/sports/double-play-danny-jansen-catch-both-teams-blue-jays-red-sox-2024-08-23/

If the stars are properly aligned, I might catch it [horrible pun (?) intended] ... at least I shouldn't have to concern myself with switching channels to get away from the Lu-bay Ays-jay's UG-LEE city connect [cough, splutter, cough] uniforms.

I generally like to watch no-hitters and no-hitters in progress, but I guess I out-foxed (?) myself today. Was flitting back and forth .... prolonged periods on the local Access channel as my wife* was showing interest in the jam being broadcast, so I didn't realize what was what until  he went out for the ninth.

* - and me being the new-age, sensitive guy that I am  ... ah, you know how it is.   wink

Some new-to-me trivia....  From Baseballhistory >> Funny Baseball Memes >> my Facebook >> BHO:

"After a slump, Pete Browning wandered around the Hillerich plant one day & told Mr. Hillerich the last bat made for him was no good.

“I can’t hit a thing with it,” he said.

“Well, bring it back, and I’ll put a home run in it for you," Mr. Hillerich said.

Mr. Hillerich took the bat, put it into a lathe, and scratched a circle around it. That afternoon, Browning hit the promised homer, and ever after, his bats were made with rings around them."

Pic is of "Bud" Hillerich, the creator of the "Louisville Slugger," at his personal lathe in Louisville.

I figure Ali was the “Louisville Slugger”, he being a native of that city.

But, the important question is whether it's Lou-ee-ville  or Lou-vu(h)ll.  Inquiring minds want to know!!!   cheeky

Sad/frustrating/??? day 1/2 hour down the road.  Hockey was pretty important to/in Foxwarren.  I think the banners are from the senior Falcons in the North Central League, 1990s-2000s.   [7:00 - 7:30ish this a.m. For us, it was quite windy and a downpour, but we didn't think too much of it. ]   https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10160453945217992&set=pcb.10160453947997992

I delivered in Louisville few times and i’ze brought up that question to the locals,, they laughed at my Loo-ee-ville and one said “Repeat after me,, Lu-ville”

As for the arena damage, I hate to see that,, kids are gearing up soon for hockey,, guess they’ll havta play at a neighbouring town’s rink..... Birtle!?
I watched for years passing the old barn in Fleming, SK as it slowly caved in ,,, a small town that couldn’t keep up the expense with dwindling population.

Some more pics https://www.facebook.com/MBWeatherCentre   I haven't talked to anybody, but so long as the rafters are sound, it looks like they might be able to repair it.  One of the comments on this [MB weather] site asks about the campground.  Just in back of the rink, there was a small campground that was mostly obliterated by a windstorm 6 or 8 years back ...dunno how much use it got ... maybe a few as unserviced sites.  We drove around it back then, but now you'd go by on the highway and not realize there is/had been/?? a campground.

From Hockey Beast >> my Facebook >> BHO:

"When Jacques Lemaire was the coach of the New Jersey Devils, he had Russian forward Valeri Zelepukin on his team. But at that point in his early NHL playing days, Zelepukin didn’t speak much English. One time, Lemaire screamed to his players, ”Do you know what happens to a team when things aren’t going well?” The coach thought his point, motivating his players by threatening to trade them, was made crystal clear. ”There was a silence, then Zellie raised his hand and said, ’Coach gets fired?’ Everybody started laughing, even me,” Lemaire recalled."
