I remember her when she was starting out on some funny sports talk show with this character who was hilarious but on the edge,, sweating, hyper, probably on some “performance-enhancing” substance.

She wasn't on NHL network much, or at all, this season. She's been doing some stuff with TBS/ESPN/ABC.  Presumably, it's about the money - I can't imagine NHL Network pays all that well. She also apparently does a lot of stuff with pro wrestling. Insert your own joke here.

Always enjoyed watching her when she was a regular host on NHL Network. She's highly knowledgeable about the game, the teams and the players.

And one must admit, she is rather fetching...

On the eve of a possible, and in 1965 improbable Stanley Cup winner from Florida, I’ll sidebar to Salt Lake City (where in 2013 I bought my first banjo again after a 26 year hiatus from the instrument). The team-naming contest is still ongoing so they’re opting for The Utah Hockey Club (soccer/football, anyone?) next season, and they’ll be donning these non-descript sweaters [jerseys in SLC].

It's going to be interesting to watch Utah over the summer and into the season. They've got some impressive young talent that's still developing - and most importantly, they're sitting on a boatload of draft picks (one first round and three each in the second and third rounds), more than $43mm in cap space, with an additional $7.8mm in potential LTIR space (Shea Weber) and they're in pretty good shape with regard to players under contract for the upcoming season (though their D corps is currently all either RFA or UFA).

Their biggest current weakness is goaltending - and it occurs to me that although the buzz is that Linus Ullmark pretty much has all the teams west of the Mississippi River on his no-trade list, he could make himself an instant superstar in SLC.  And Utah is a very pleasant place, with reasonable taxes and a major international airport quite convenient to downtown. That might combine to get him to agree to a move. I've gotta believe Sweeney is at least exploring that option.

Bottom line is that Utah is in a position to buy its way into the playoffs for the 24-25 season.

1923-24 Toronto St. Patricks ,  now Maple Leafs. 43 years later they won their last Stanley Cup, 57 years since still no Cup winner.

Congratulations to the Florida Panthers on winning the Stanley Cup. Edmonton came inches from tying up the game, but so goes sports.
Here’s Kyle Okposo, long-time veteran who suffered some severe setbacks during his career, including concussions and mental health issues.
(oh, as I usually do ! , to Panthers braintrust member Rick Dudley, a former St. Catharines Blackhawk, congratulations)

Congrats to the Panthers indeed. I was pulling for Edmonton, for a variety of reasons - not least the story line of coming back from a 3-0 deficit. Alas, it was not to be.

And now the THIRD season begins... with drafts, trades and furious speculation. On the matter of the latter: I absolutely do NOT understand the trade of Ullmark to Ottowa. I get it from Ottowa's standpoint, but I don't understand it from either Boston's or Linus's perspective. Supposedly, Ottowa was on his no-trade list, yet he went there anyway. For what? 25th pick overall when Ottowa was sitting on #7? And what does Sweeney do with a 2A goaltender when there are two talented youngsters in Providence ready to step up? Or with a fourth line center (Boston is awash in fourth-line centers)?

Sweeney has been known to play a long game so there could well be other moves afoot that will resolve these questions. I have to appreciate his going all-in for the Cup in 22-23, and cobbing together a team that surpassed anyone's expectations this season - with basically no cap space and a prospect pool running on fumes.

I can't call him an idiot. But he's also been known to make some really dumb decisions.

Headline says it's "inexplicable" ..... https://www.newsweek.com/sports/team-usa-inexplicably-loses-japan-american-football-1918410   and that's the best explanation I've heard so far.

Must say that the graphics and visuals offered up at the NHL draft in The Sphere were fantastic. And if they looked that good on television, I can only imagine what it was like in the arena.

Fortunately we have "to each his/her own."  For the most part the extraneous hub-bub has me thinking they're trying to copy the NBA .... and if you haven't guessed, it isn't my cup of tea.   Where's Bobby Clarke > Giroux  and Price > Reinbacher (?) when we need 'em?

And while I'm at it.... a lot of the beisbol "city connect" uniforms get a no from me .... I nominate the Ue-blay A-jays as the worst of a b-a-d lot .... they're so bad, sometimes I don't even wait for a bad ad to switch channels.

The purpose of multi uniforms is sales. There's always some sucker who's gonna buy something as awful as a sky blue Habs sweater. (I didn't see any "third" Canadiens sweaters this year, or have I not been keeping track?) Or a navy blue Oilers sweater with orange stripes. Or the same thing in black with fluorescent green for the Stars.

The whole wearing team gear scene is relatively new. It used to be you dressed up for a game. Dad once complained about seeing a friend at a game and he was wearing a windbreaker. Men wore suits back then. Now it's a sea of team sweaters, each one at ... how much do they cost now?

(And what's with the high-fives by the spectators when their team gets a goal? They didn't score.)

....and more importantly:

May be an image of text

Where's our man Dougie when ya need him ?? .... $1 beer. yes   If the Lu-bay A-jays make Loonie Dog Nite work, then, why not?   Periodically when the ad pops up I'll ask: "You wanna go to Toronto?"  We don't fly particularly often, but when we do my wife connects somewhere other than Toronto IF possible ... her reply doesn't change much .... either: "You can if you want." or "Not me!"

Back when the BooYays pwayed at the old Ex cheap seats were $4. Jim Rice hit a Homer, landed 2 rows down from me… I didn’t jump into the melee…

Move over hockey and make room for golfers??

I'm too lazy to check, but in recent years I think fighting in hockey has decreased.   Looks like any slack will be taken up by golfers: https://bc.ctvnews.ca/altercation-between-numerous-golfers-on-b-c-course-broken-up-by-rcmp-1.6948260

And pro wrestling is where you find Jackie. Much as I enjoy watching Jackie, I don't enjoy watching Jackie enough to enjoy watching pro wrestling.
