The bluegrass Tune of the Week (TOTW) is a new project for this forum, in the spirit of the clawhammer forums long-running TOTW threads. The purpose of a TOTW thread is to focus on a particular tune--how to play it, interesting notes about its history, memorable versions played, etc. Embrace the TOTW and become an expert on a particular tune!

Here is an index of the TOTW (BG) threads which will continue to be updated as more are added.

If you are interested in choosing and composing a writeup for an upcoming TOTW, please contact me.

I will post a reply on this topic each time a new week's tune is added, so if you subscribe to this topic you'll be notified of new tunes.

Working on all of them. Played Banjo signal with my jam group. Slowly. But the fiddles eventually caught on.
Also attended a great workshop with Mark Johnson followed by an equally fantastic little concert right here in Jupiter Fl. I definitely want to learn some of that claw grass as well.

Eric,

The link to Mountain Dew in the index post is correct but the one in your single post points to Wreck of the Old 97.

Hi there,

it's probably pilot error on my part, but when I try to play the songs posted for the tune the player tells me, "no user logged in", although I am logged-in to BHO. How do I log-in to hear the tunes?

Thanks!

Cliff

Cliff, if you're talking about the "Mountain Dew" playlist, you have to have a Spotify account in order to play the tunes.

Okay, that was easy :) (Spotify, that is)
Really enjoying the tunes and the BG TOTW feature. It's a fun a manageable week-by-week endeavor that builds up the repertoire. I can learn 52 new tunes in a year!

Thanks!

Thanks Eric, you are doing a great job.  I have been learning the last two by ear so I didn't use the links, but I am sure they have been a great source for many.  I was wondering if Clinch Mountain Backstep would be too advanced for another TOTW.  It's a tune I'd like to learn.  Thanks.

schlange, thanks for all you do here.the video of LRblues by Glenn Miller is the best,I believe the way he instructs is the easiest , blending the tab with the explaining as he goes .then breaking it down to short intervals.Until his videos I was never able to grasp up the neck, keep it up!

How about Pig in a Pen ? And maybe you could post a backing track in A. If you get a chance of course.

Eric I just bought Casey's break to Blue Ridge Cabin Home. Can that video be viewed through the Banjo Hangout video lessons software? I downloaded the software but that video didn't show up.

I love what you are doing with the TOTW! What a great idea!! Thanks for all the hard work you put in!

Casey's videos can just be watched thru the BHO site (use the link in your receipt email.) it's not done thru the Purple player system, it's just done directly thru the BHO site.
