Its been a while, 2009! since my last entry. I think the last question I posted was asking advice on what to do with a new baby while trying to learn banjo. Well nearly 3 years on and will admit that the banjo had to take a bit of a back seat. Have made a new year resolution to get back to playing more regularly again. There in lies the problem, to get anywhere with the banjo you really need to commit to regular practice, its not really a part time hobby if you want to get any good. Some issues I have with living in Bali are that there is no one to jam with and no tutors to learn from. I've definitely been through about 6 months of a lean period with regards playing. It started with a real struggle to come to grips with a few tunes, (FMB!) just going over and over them with no real improvement which in turn lead to losing the initial passion there was and just not picking the banjo up for long periods.
To make amends I've bought a new head (Fyber Skin) and a Bart Veerman bridge just for the fun of setting it all up and having a new sound. I also just want to concentrate on expanding my repertoire of tunes, up to now I just been learning technique. Basically I want to have some fun with what I can do for a while, then start learning new methods again.
I am sure I am not the first person to hit a bit of a wall and become a bit discouraged, but I am making amends and going to kick it all of again....once my wee girl is tucked up in bed and a sleep..

Born in Wick Scotland but spent most of my life so far in Edinburgh. Moved to Bali, Indonesia 2009. Played guitar since 1975. Was given my first banjo in 1984, but never really hit it off first time and traded it for a leather jacket!! Have regretted this ever since and now committed myself to really going for it....
