Cant believe it been a year since starting on the banjo, time really does fly when you're having fun. Have I reached a credible level after all the work I've put in? Well I hope so. A great bit of advise I picked up was not to hurry learning the banjo. We all want to be playing like the greats as quickly as possable but the truth is that it really does take years of practise to get there, and to be honest I am more than happy to take my time. Having worked through Dummies Guide and Earls book (which I will return to in the future) I started out on Tony Trischkas beginners guide to bluegrass banjo and started all over again. I think I am definately still at a beginners stage but the confidence is building. The plan is to finish the book, which will take some time yet then move onto Janet Davis' book of essential bluegrass tunes, hopefully preparing myself to play with others. Playing with others has always been an issue due to my location. In Dubai I was sure I was the only player in the city. I landed in Bali literally three days ago and I know there are other players here, I saw them last time I was visiting, its just a matter of finding them. I am possitive all will come to pass and that at some point in the future (the far distant future!) I will be nervously awaiting to do my first gig somewhere in Bali...
