On Christmas 2007, I got my first banjo. It was a Dean BW3 metal pot banjo. I was 13 at the time. After learning a few basic songs reasonably well, I quickly grew out of the bad action and horrible tone of the metal pot banjo. I managed to pick up a Samick SB-4 banjo at my local music store. This banjo was a quantum leap better than the metal pot banjo. Unfortunately, sooner than later this banjo began plaguing me with problems. Cheese grater action, cracked resonator, unstable neck, and being a beginner, I didn't know how to fix it. After that, I got a pretty good deal on Gold Star GF-200. This banjo was truly a very good banjo and I still have it. During the summer of 2008, I managed to acquire a Blaylock Bear Tracks tone ring and pot assembly with neck. This has been my main banjo since I got it and it has the tone that I love! Deep and hollow, so Croweish. My main influences, are Flatt & Scruggs, JD Crowe, Doyle Lawson, Ron Stewart. Anything traditional, I'm not one for the modern stuff. I have no plans on ever quitting the banjo!
