I'm really a guitar player by trade. Currently in a singer songwriter duet with Mary Henderson (Mary Henderson & Geoff Shannon) for about 15 years now. I write instrumentals for guitar, banjo, and Dojo. I don't really have an actual background in old time music. I'm more of a country player. I just like the rhythm of frailing, which is about all I do on 5 string instruments. Drop thumbing is a bit of a mystery to my thumb, which is not a very smart thumb to begin with, it seems. I suppose once I get done exploring frailing, I can see about getting a thumb transplant and learning to drop it into the mix. I'll try to post a picture of a Dojo for those of you a-skeert to explore the underbelly of the dark side of old time music. In a nutshell, it's made by Dobro, has a resonator and a 5-string neck. All the tuning issues of a banjo with the sustain of a Dobro. Very creepy indeed. I love it though, sort of like a mother would love a child just cause it was her child, even though it has 3 noses and one well centered eye. I selected 'Purty Good' as a description of my place on the food chain on account of there wasn't a choice for 'flailer', or "That ain't no part of Old time'. So any inaccuracies are the fault of the site management rather than false advertising on my part. All tunes I post here will be originals. They are held by Prairie Smoke Publishing / BMI , and either are or hopefully will be recorded on Smoky Hill Records by Mary Henderson & Geoff Shannon. We do have CD's.
