I was traveling through Nashville and stopped by Huber Banjos, after calling, to have them look at my 06 Lancaster that I thought was not behaving well.

Joe took me and my daughter on a 15 min tour while Bennie adjusted the banjo.

His adjustments were great, back to being a Huber lover. I guess when you try too many adjustments yourselves you lose the perspective of tone, at least I did.

No charge for the service ,,, these two guys are just fantastic!

Change the strings, check bridge position, check head for tears and check head tension.(do a search on Steve Davis head tension to learn how to check the head tension with a ruler and a dime) Hope your banjo gets back to sounding good again
	lestermatt says: 3/20/2014 5:32:09 PM I agree with firemx220 if you have slowly buy surely been tightening (or loosening ) things for a while chances are your way outta wack. Check your tailpiece angle (make sure the TP is not touching the tension hoop) check that your neck is tight(be sure to to loosen the appropriate nuts and then re-tighten them when your done.I have a few more ideas just contact me privately some time if you like. I too have a Lancaster and its tone is sublime.
	markbyrum says: 3/20/2014 6:09:49 PM I had a similar problem with a pre-war conversion. I had tightened down the head so much that it began to unravel from the little rim around which the plastic was wrapped. It was not apparent when mounted on the banjo, but when I took the head off it could be seen. Perhaps taking the banjo apart and starting over is in order.

I'd tell you to tap tone it and loosen to G#, but not sure if you're familiar with hearing the pitch on your head. I've also experienced differences in the sound of heads on Huber banjos. Some people like the Huber heads better then the standard Weatherkings... I've seen different heads make a big difference. You may want to try a different bridge too. The Huber bridges are really bright and I like them, but you might want to experiment with a Snuffy Smith or maybe a Scorpion bridge
	dpeters says: 4/14/2014 2:48:41 PM One thing to add to all the good advice here.. Did you have the heel stock recut when you put the 11/16 bridge on or was the banjo factory set for 11/16? I ask because I thought most Huber's are cut for a 5/8 bridge and if you've had to really crank the action down it's remotely possible the extra coordinator rod tension has dampened the sound from the rim.. Just a thought.. Dave
