Carl Wells was born in Pineland Texas in 1964. He was raised in Sabine county all his life. Upon graduating from West Sabine High School in 1982 he joined the United States AirForce and traveled the world as an aircraft mechanic working on various airframes to include F-4s, A10s, OA10s, C-130s. Carl was raised in a church family and has always enjoyed Southern Gospel music. While stationed in Arkansas he attended his first bluegrass festival in Mountain View, Arkansas where the banjo fever hit him and hit him hard. He had always loved bluegrass music and this was his first real closeup of different bands. At this time he married his highschool sweetheart and she tried to get him to pick up the banjo but he did not think he had the time or the ability to play. Through the next few years Carl spent his free time hunting and fishing with his beloved sweetheart and they attended as many bluegrass functions that time and military duty would allow. In 2008 Carl retired from the military after 26 years and returned to Sabine county in East Texas where he continued to hunt and fish(see pictures in profile). Through the next few years Carl was tasked with taking care of his wife who had a heart problem and was constantly by her side till she passed away July 2010. They had always enjoyed life to the fullest making the best of things and being very active in their local church. After the passing of his wife Carl found that he could not do the things that he really wanted to and to the extent that he used to (had to have major back surgery in Sept. 2011). But the longing of that high lonesome sound still haunted him. He knew that his wife would want him to enjoy life to the fullest. He started dateing and God put in his life a very nice christian lady who likes bluegrass music. And then that high lonesome feeling crept back into his heart that was put there some years ago by the twang of a single banjo in the stillness of a cool night at the Ozark Folk Center in Arkansas. Carl began his search and after many months of researching, asking questions, seeking out the right answers he decided on which banjo would be his first purchase. He also spent many wakening hours listening to cds, watching videos, and studying books even before he purchased his first banjo. He knew that he wanted to get one that would not require an update later on and he knew that he didn't want just a cheap banjo to see if this adventure was real. He also knew that he could not afford a very expensive one. He knew that feeling deep down was real and he would stick with it to the end. With encouraging words from family members, chuch family and an understanding girlfriend, ( we got married August 22, 2011) I am now the owner of a brand new Recording King Elite 75. I recieved my banjo on January 24, 2011. Thank you to all my friends and people here that has helped me. May GOD bless each of you. Can be contacted at 936-201-6792
