When I started during the Dueling Banjo craze of the early 70''s, it was actually a Taj Mahal record" De Old Folks Back Home" that caught me ( the cover did it). I spent my HS years in banjo isolation trying to play both Scruggs and Clawhammer without thinking much about the differences, my record collection at that point was JD Crowe w Red Allen Bluegrass Holiday, Ralph Stanley Plays Request, Clawhammer Vol.1, NLCR Stringband Instrumentals, Flatt and Scruggs Everest label , Banjo Anthology, and Will the the Circle be Unbroken. At least they were all great records.
