I’m so excited to announce that my debut solo CD “Big Fancy” is now available. This project has been percolating for a long time and, to my astonishment, it’s finally done! Yay!
If you have any interest in a straight-up instrumental old-time album chock full of classics as well as some genuine rarities, then you’ll really dig it. There’s a ton of fiddle and quite a lot of banjo on the recording, in a variety of tunings. I drew my repertoire from Kentucky, West Virginia, Illinois, North Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio.
For the banjo geeks out there, clawhammer, 2-finger and 3-finger styles are all represented! I recorded with banjos made by Jason Romero, Kevin Enoch, Bart Reiter, Bob Flesher and Jeff Menzies. Some of these banjos can also be heard on the Dan Gellert CD/DVD set that I produced and released earlier this year.
"Big Fancy" features 21 tracks and comes with a 24-page booklet that contains in-depth liner notes, photographs and artwork. Here’s the track listing:
-Uncle Tom and the Wolves
-Going to the Free State
-Kate’s Got a Wooden Leg
-Over the Mountain
-Davy Come On Back and Act Like You Ought To
-Old Bunch of Keys
-Kiss Me Quick, My Papa’s A-Comin’
-Jingle at the Window, Tidy-O
-Happy Hollow & Jack’s Creek Ridge
-Boating Up Sandy
Check it out if you get a chance! We had a ton of fun making it and I'd love to hear what you think!
