The Old-Time Tiki Parlour

Howdy All!

OldTimeTikiParlour.com is here!

It's been long time in the making and I am excited to announce a website that's all about my obsession: Old-Time Music. As some of you already know, I've started filming old-time musicians for DVD releases, to help preserve these musicians while in their prime and to expose them to a larger community of music lovers. We just finished the Rafe & Clelia Stefanini DVD package. The Dan Gellert one is almost ready for release as we speak, and many more to come soon. They are beautifully filmed, full of informative liner notes and contain wonderfully designed packages by actual old-time musicians. Although the website will contain all the info for our productions, you'll see that it's much larger than that. Also, it will continue to grow.

It started as a resource site for students and now it'll have something interesting for any lover of old-time music: Field Recordings, Performance Videos, Photographs, Essential Old-Time Websites (resources, current musicians, stores, labels, builders, etc.), YouTube Links and Concert & Workshop Events here at the Parlour.

I will also continue to post lesson videos for fiddle and banjo. They are free, informal and get right down to the nitty gritty of playing specific old-time tunes with the technique of the masters. Currently you'll find lessons of tunes by Wade Ward, Hobart Smith, Ed Haley, Bruce Greene, Delbert Hughes, etc. Eventually I may start filming high-end, in-depth videos that mirror my actual one-on-one lessons with deep explanation of right hand technique, authentic bowing patterns, rhythmic emphasis, variants, individual and regional styles for a small price. However, it seems that free lessons which cut right to the chase are perfect for now. It also allows me to focus on private instruction and filming/editing the old-time greats!

Enjoy and spread the word!
