What would make the perfect woman's banjo?

From companionbanjogirl on 4/17/2017 7:37:09 PM

Hi Ladies,

I'm excited to see so many talented women keeping the banjo picking tradition alive! I've been a life long bluegrasser, mostly playing fiddle and guitar, but I've started learning the banjo recently. My husband is a great player so he's teachin' me the ropes. We also work together making custom resonator banjos (www.CompanionBanjos.com). What I love most about building is hearing from people about their ideal banjo - from wood to inlays.

When I'm visiting banjo sellers, I've noticed that there aren't a lot of banjos tailored to women. And really, no one is asking what women want in a banjo.

Well I'm going to break the silence! I want to hear from you - if you could pick every feature about your banjo to really make it your own, what would you choose?

Personally, I gravitate to high contrast wood blends. I'm working on one right now that combines a maple neck and resonator with purple heart accents for the head stock and heal cap. The natural purple tone is subtle and elegant but the maple will give the banjo that clear, confident sound. It would be a lot of fun to experiment with other exotic wood blends like yellow heart, paduk, and etc.

Anyway, I would love to hear what other women would like to see. Because it's about time! :)

Great idea Stephanie! I'd love to see some pink rhinestone accents or turquoise inlay. Just a little girlie!

Turquoise would be really neat. We've thought about experimenting with metals too like copper, possibly on the headstock where there's more room for textured inlays. A simple pink rhinestone at the peak of the headstock would be nice!
