Hi folks,

Just a quick word - Cindy tells me that we only have about ten slots open before this year's banjo camp will be sold out. So, get on the phone soon to Cindy if you're planning on attending. This year's camp is October 16-18.

All the best,

Bill Evans

Felt compelled to post regarding a member of the Chief Community to see if anyone has any additional details to add. It appears the Charlie Cushman suffered a mild heart attack earlier this week and was rushed to the hospital for emergency bypass surgery. The few details generally available can be found at the following link from The Bluegrass Blog:

http://www.thebluegrassblog.com/cha...n-doing-fine

Anyone know anything further or where/how we can express our care and support to Charlie and his family?

Carla, his wife, tells me he is doing well. The operation was Tuesday and she said he is eating, laughing, etc. so everything seems to be going well. It was a mild heart attack. He had triple bypass. The heart attack occurred last Thursday night..he went into the hospital Friday and then the surgery was performed Tuesday. I spent about 3 hours with him Monday night..he was in good spirits..so all seems well.

At latest check he has stopped smoking...YEAAAAAAH!

I'm going to see him today...after I deliver a Maple Chief to Blake Williams.
Also Bob Emmert in Tijeras New Mexico, has put a deposit on a Chief.

Blake Williams (Williams and Clark) has been playing a Scout for several months and will continue to play both on their shows. I trust not at the same time!!!
Daniel Grindstaff is doing the same. He works with Marty Raben. Marty's new CD (I can't remember the title) has Daniel playing Chief number 89 throughout. Daniel's Scout is number 88.

Sonny, thanks for the up-dates on Charlie.

Still Playing and enjoying my Maple Chief. I have tweaked & tweaked (a little at a time) and finally have the sound that is most pleasing to my ear. Would recommend a Chief to anybody.

Our gig got canceled last night due to thunder storms. It was an outside event with two other bands. I still got the same pay though......$zero! It was a benefit fund raiser for the Lions Club. Oh well!

Isn't Dana Cupp also still playing both his chief and scout? I heard him play last month, playing his chief. His playing and tone just blew us away .

TheChief - Posted - 08/03/2009:  08:49:18

Stan I've had a few of those myself..only they weren't charity.

Dana is still playing the Chief and Scout. Both are sounding pretty good last time I heard them.

Charlie is home and progressing well.

Cindy's Bluegrass camp started today...Nascamp. Someone should have told us the location.

The guy promoting the event called it off, then the skies opened up and everyone (the musicians preparing to set up) scattered. He called an hour later after I'd gone home, dried off and made plans for the evening and said, "It's still on!" Meanwhile, back home, a second deluge hit. I told him, he was crazy....I don't swim in swim in lightening storms, golf in lightening storms or play music in lightening storms. Out to dinner with my wife and friends later on, it was still raining.

I've gotten the blue flame to the lip off the microphone too many times when I was a teen playing rock music for pool parties. Water and electricity don't mix. Nuff Said!

I faxed Cindy my registration form to NashCamp.

I'm driving from Maryland...I might be interested in carpooling if any local pickers want to go.

Promoters are generally like that. You did the smart thing Stan.
Once at Hillsdale New York three hundred years ago, a storm blew in with lightening. It struck one guy and darn near killed him. I saw him the next year and where he had been wearing a necklace with the Presley motta.."TCB" with a lightening bolt, it was branded on his skin...so, the lightening must have hit there.
Many years ago my Mother was hoeing corn in the garden and it struck the hoe. Destroyed the hoe and killed a dog standing near the hoe blade. Lightening ain't no toy.

If you get hit by lightning, try and find yourself a doctor of keraunopathy. Apparently there are only a few in the country - they're the doctors who study the effects of lightning strikes on the human body. I suppose there aren't a whole lot of surviving patients to treat.

Most of you probably already know this, but a new Chief thread (Part 8) has been started and there's 3 pages of stuff already. So, if you haven't been seeing any traffic here, it's because everyone moved.
