Sonny,
Were you talking about the John Deere hit and miss motor? I've heard'em run. I've done some plowing with a '49 Farmall Cub and a red
belly Ford 8N. Heard Kristin play her chief Saturday at Sparta,Tn. It sounded great.

Sonny,
Still my offer stands to sell him all rights to the use of Number 35 for 20$. Just the number , not my Chief.![]()
Tomorrow, that price may go up, with the market acting up.
Steve
PS the real #35 continues to impress the heck out of listeners and me !

Eric...that's the one. The old man on the farm next to ours had a 40's model John Deere..I think, and it sounded like it had one cylinder. You could hear it running a mile away. He had to start it with a flywheel. I was about 10-11 years old. We had a Farmall F12 at the time, later an H model. I spent a lot of hours with those tractors.
Bobby, my brother, has a Ford Red Belly now that he does some bush hogging with. Good tractors, and, that is a good life.
Kristin is the "real deal."
Memories.

As long as we're throwing tactors in... I had 15 acres in Locust, NC,worked it with an Allis-Chalmers WD-45. Only got it stuck in the pond once ![]()

Currenty l own two JD 2210's, one for mowing and one for loader work on just 5 acres in the mountains.
Besides picking the Chief there is nothing more satisfying than a full day on the tractor. ![]()

I have no tractor stories .
I repesented Allis Chalmers in a "good tractor gone bad" case once.
It was like a Steven King novel.
Not my client's fault of course.

Talking about tractors, Dad has a 5 horsepower Wheel Horse that he bought in 1979 or 80 and he still maintains a 1/2 acre garden and mows two 1 acre yards with it, that's a tough little machine.

I'm just back from IBMA and had the best time while there. I got to hang out with Grich, Diva, Daniel Grindstaff and a bunch of others, some from the Hang Out. Heard the new Scout that had been set up by Charlie. I was impressed by the tone but still would bet my Chief against it or any other banjo there. Yeah, I'm prejudice a bit. Just like I own the best bulldog in the world, I own the best Chief ever, too.

Despite getting ejected from the RK booth for flat picking the Scout mummers style, I got to catch up with a bunch of folks and enjoyed a great dinner with Greg, Diva (and her better half) along with Ronnie Stoneman.
The only caveat was that Greg drove us all to dinner..... in a minivan....down the wrong side of the road in downtown Nashville....... you can take the guy outta CA but......![]()

Hey Sonny,
Kristin's new CD is amazing. Listened all the way back from IBMA to home today ( even stopped at KFC Buffet in LaGrange -yours is being shipped as "Special order parts from F. Neat").
She absolutely stomps Bugle Call Rag right into submission! I had to play that about 5 times in a row .
The cover photos are impressive . Better hire a night crew to keep up with production.
I got to see her at a banjo workshop with some former winners...TT, Sammy...
She is running in the tall grass now , and even being petite is plenty easy to see.
My bet now is that "Second Season " wins Instrumental Album of the Year in 2009...
how much ?

No Bet...I've been ranting and raving about her for the past couple years. I saw the performance of her with Larry Stephenson Band Sat. night at the Station Inn...Nedski came over and sat with me for a couple minutes...He said, "you know the good thing about her playing is she never misses a lick"..so true. She's a wonderful player and truly belongs in the company of "The Big Boys."
Incidentally, Larry has one of the best bands out there right now. Kevin Richardson (Guitar), Kyle Perkins (Bass), Jason Barry (Fiddle), Kristin and Larry. They're good...real good. If you all haven't seen or heard them, you should.![]()
