Clam chowder, New England style. Made with a roux of VERY rich milk from a Mennonite acquaintance, plus onion, celery, bacon, clams, and clam juice. Chiffonade if basil at the end. I found it a bit bland but suspect it will improve over the next few days...

That would surely be a hit with Marilyn. We have to buy lemonade by the bag, same with the limes. The peels/zest are not wasted! Brad

Caldo Verde - Portuguese potato, cabbage and chorizo soup. There’s only five ingredients in it but it is by far my all time favourite soup.

Even better, tnis was made by my 16 year old son, it’s just the two of us at home at the moment and I’ve been teaching him a few recipes …..he’s got this one nailed.

Chili tonight, plus cornbread from my new favorite mix: Anderson House foods. Way better than Jiffy, IMO. On the side, corn chips and Yemeni-style Zhoug Sauce from Trader Joe's. A bright green vegetal sauce with a bit of a jalapeno kick. @eagleisland
Skip: Al says you probably will know about this stuff.

That looks fantastic Liz.... I'm interested to see @eagleisland's take on your beans in the chilli - he's known to be quite disparaging of this in the past.....

Taco Thursday, plus a chopped salad/coleslaw type thing from Trader Joe's. I made a rice pudding with the leftover rice as well, but that hasn't been dug into yet.

Not really dinner, but rather most of the work to take gumbo to church tomorrow morning.

I'm a dark roux (oil & flour) guy. No celery or okra (not a fan of either), but plenty of onion and peppers. And, of course, garlic. It's pretty spicy so far, partially due to the inclusion of a couple of smoked/dehydrated peppers from the garden. Chicken and andouille are in with the veggies. Shrimp (crawfish are out of season and more work) and oysters tomorrow morning.

I guess I'll find out how this Episcopal church rolls. Zshrug Not sure if it'll be my long term church here, but it's been the best I've found so far among the other local denominations.

I’ve never eaten gumbo!!!
Usually has my 3 worst nightmares in it………..green pepper, celery, and okra. I can eat a little raw celery with dips or Bloody Marys but not cooked . The other two unmentionables are NEVER let in the house. If I made it without those ingredients, naysayers would say it’s not gumbo.
I love Cajun and southern foods but am limited because of my hate for the above 3 items they love to put in those foods.

Slammer, I use sweet bell peppers, no okra, no celery.  Beaucoup d'onion.  You'd be OK.
