Sure. It's easy to like well-meaning gentlemen who never quite get there. But great hockey involves sandpaper. The Tkachuks could corner the market on industrial abrasives if they decided to change careers.

The Leafs played a solid, workmanlike job last night and, much to my surprise, shut out the Panthers in Florida. And I must admit to being disappointed, and that I hope the Panthers return the favor tomorrow night in Toronto.

My reasons are selfish and center mostly on being a Bruins fan. First, I want to see Marchand get his name on the Cup again. He's earned it. I can assure you that the only region that was rooting for the Colorado Avalanche harder than Denver back in the 2000-2001 season was Noo Wingland, when the beloved Ray Bourque finally hoisted the silver. We feel the same way about 63.

Second, he has to play a few more games in order for the draft pick that sent him to Florida converts from a second-round to first-round selection. So you might say we have a vested interest.

And finally, it would be a damned shame to see a canon of hilarious Maple Laffs classic gags be retired for a generation or so.

IMNSHumbleO, there's sandpaper and then there's being out-and-out dick-heads .... eg.  the b.s. prior to and at the start of the Four Nations game. When somebody can convince me that the WWF-style entertainment (?) trumps the actual hockey, I'll eat crow ... maybe even a couple of helpings.   

It seem to me the Flyers of the early 70s were plenty abrasive, so ............ ??   And DC/MD was, and in some circles still is, vilified primarily for his abrasive nature.  I think I'm gonna get confused. 

Edit: Ooops! I almost forgot the standard disclaimer >> to each his/her own, YMMV, etc.    [And isn't Ms. Redmond a repeat?   I trust that will be seen as me being observant (?) rather then a complaint in any way, shape, or form.]

Methinks abrasive can be misconstrued for “gamesmanship” and “getting the opponents off their game”. Out & out trash-tawking gets old quick, but it’s MT’s MO so who am I to demand change.

Methinks “pigeon-toed” is au rigeur these days, as I’ve seen other models/starlets walk that way on photos & films.
(btw, are “starlets” and “films” words from the dustbin of history? I’m hoping I’m not committing a sexist faux pas with starlet. [ I’m still using “stewardess” , “waitress”, etc….])

Bill, I mean Ernie, Clement drives in a walkoff single,, BooYays win. One of the better nail-biters I’ve seen recently.
Honourable mention to left fielder Lukes for a dart to second for an out,, and the surprising yet lovable Alejandro Kirk , the league’s most unlikely looking athlete, for a clutch game-tying hit in the eighth. (then again, the Red Sox did have Pablo Sandoval....)

Yep. I really enjoy watching Kirk picking 'em up and puttin' them down!*  Actually watched (?) some of that ^^ game** ... interspersed with Canada thrashing Slovakia at the World Hockey Championships... it's early, but so far so good.

Thnx for your confession re selfishness ,, (I’ve yet to get there…) ; however Corey Perry wouldn’t have catapulted the Blackhawks into a playoff spot this year.
As for Mr. B. Marchand , I’ve somewhat come admire the petit rat… however, he’s already won Cups wheras Raymond Bourque was dying to have his name etched on Lord Stanley’s mug.
That being said, the historic fading of Maple Leaf endeavors in May might propel BM’s energy into the Finals & beyond. Years ago there were few Maritime boys in the NHL, so I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the Bluenosers and PE Islanders, not to mention the Herring-Chokers and Newfies.
Meanwhile, back on the barren Canuckistanian prairies where leaves are just beginning sprout, Jets and Oilers fans are reaching for milk of magnesia laced with rye whisky.

The cruel hand of fate strikes again - here’s a guy, Mark Scheifele, playing after his father just passed away , scores the only Jets goal, and then he ends up watching from the penalty box as the Stars score the winning goal in overtime to eliminate the Jets. Ouch!

Tough situation awright.   

But, but, but, it brought up an interesting (?) question. Luke Gazdic said that his junior coach [Robbie Ftorek] said to always drag the guy down  'cause we have faith that our goalie will stop the penalty shot.  

Scenario #1: Don't drag the guy down, and the guy skates in on the goalie unimpeded. 

Scenario #2: Drag the guy down >> penalty shot >> the guy gets to skate in on the goalie unimpeded.

So what's the diff,*  aside from scenario #2 providing both the goalie and the shooter with more "thinking" time?

* dunno what the stats show.  But Hrudy mentioned that he had a 50% success/failure/?? rate on penalty shots.  Again no stats [yet] but off the top of my noggin I figure the goalie stops, or at least should stop, at least 75%.  What do the BHO expert analysts think?

Or am I having a brain cramp?

I dunno, maybe Ftorek recognized that cornsiddering wasn't a strong suit of his players??    ["When I thinks, my head hurts." ???]

If one is about to drag down a player from one’s opposition team then I would cornsitter assessing the strength or weakness of said opponents’ PP or one’s own team’s PK as a factor in one’s decision. However, Ftorek might have underestimated the brain cramp factor of his players…. one's quick reflexes doesn’t always translate to one's ability re quick thinking.

All that said, it was painful to see the Leafs crumble like that on home ice. For all of the noise about Boston and NYC sports fans being the most obnoxious in North America, they've got nothing on Toronto. Marchand and Paul Maurice both alluded to such in their post-game pressers. Pretty classy - nothing but praise for what the Leafs did this year, and strong defense of the players with regard to their treatment by fans and the press.

I was just testing (?) some of the advice given in the links Joel provided in the thread about scams.   Facebook keeps my eagle eye (?) in tune, especially in stuff portrayed as historical or old photos.... eg. a team of horses and a wagon on a raft/barge crossing a river ... 'cept the vagrant* front legs/hoofs of the broomtails. 

* i.e. "no visible means of support"  ...  they're just hanging in nothing above the water ahead of the raft.

I mucho like hot dogs, so when ads for "loonie dog nite" appear I sometimes ask my wife if we should go.   Typically she replies: "Well, you can go."

Fwiw, my daughter/SIL/3 teenaged sons spent some time in TO some weeks back.  She reported that the 3 boys didn't get short-changed ... 13 dogs along with some popcorn, yogourt, etc. ... and I think they also got a couple of warm-up and "dirt" balls.  

Schneider wieners on those dogs,, I knew a guy in Kitchener that worked there,, said he’d NEVER eat anything from that meat plant.
