Playing Since: 1958
Experience Level: Expert/Professional

Occupation: Bluegrass Banjo teacher

Gender: Male
Age: 82

My Instruments:
I own and play on the 1st ( prototype ) Deering Texas Banjo 1941, which I designed, and also the 11th ( most recent ) Deering Texas Banjo ( 1986 ). I keep and practice with a Deering Goodtime Special. ( a great banjo for beginners.)

Favorite Bands/Musicians:
After Earl Scruggs, my favorite banjo players are Allen Shelton, Billy Faier, Bill Keith, Alan Munde, Larry McNeely, Jack Hicks, Vic Jordan, Bob Black, and Butch Robbins. Of all these,
I have studied Alan Munde's style the closest. It has also been such a thrill to go thru my life
with as many of Bill Keith's recordings as I could collect. What a genius and also, a friend he is.

I have been TEACHING BLUEGRASS BANJO here in HOUSTON, Texas since 1972, and I welcome all levels of students, beginnners to advanced, who may be frustrated by tablature. I created my own learning system, BanjerTab, an alternative form of learning bluegrass banjo. I teach all areas of picking, Scruggs to Melodics, but I SPECIALIZE IN BACK-UP, which is YOUR KEY to MAXIMUM FUN in PARTICIPATING in jam sessions.. Out of town students are also welcome. I have been a Deering banjo dealer since 1984, and am the designor of the Deering - Ullrich Texas banjo.
