Seems I've been a bit MIA from BHO the last couple of weeks, but I'm still pickin' and still in love with my open back. I can tell though that I need to get out more. Seems the opportunities to play with others are few and far between, but that should change as spring approaches. I sure hope it does.
I am excited to report that I am registered for Midwest Banjo Camp in MI in June! I'm very much looking forward to being immersed in banjo for three days, meeting other pickers and hanging out with some of my favorite premier players. Then I'll head to Augusta Heritage Old Time Week in Elkins WV in August. But both of those events are a ways off, so I need to find a way keep progressing in the mean time.
Even though I'm learning alone at home, I'm tickled with my progress. I'm finding melodies and changing chords reasonably well now. I can also sing while playing if the tune is not too complex. So that's something!
The next step? Not sure without some real instruction, but I'm interested double thumbing and experimenting different tunings, but just don't have a grasp on either yet. Since I play some fiddle I understand fiddle tunings, but re-tuning the banjo just hasn't clicked yet.
