OK, I haven't been this possessed by/obsessed with an instrument since 1998. I wondered why I was hungry, 'cause I thought I had just eaten breakfast... but I just looked at the clock and realized I've been playing the banjo for more than three hours! My little session feels productive, too. I'm taking solo banjo recordings that are too fast to hear everything that's going on and listening to 10-15 second passages in the Amazing Slow Downer - I'm delighted to find I can play many of the things I hear - yes, at a very reduced speed - but I can do it! And the best part is, it feels natural. The speed will come in time. Right now I'm just looking to get the right sound. Yippee! I am more hopeful than ever that I'm gonna be a real banjo player someday!

Welcome to the world of banjo addiction :-) I share many of your feelings. It's so exciting to start playing those licks and such, even at a slow speed. I really can't think of anything more satisfying then the sense of joy and accomplishment I feel when I learn some really "bluegrass banjo-esque" sounding break. The time just flies when you're playing banjo.

Go for it, it's been a great ride! And, still going! BTW, would love to hear some sound clips of your hammered dulcimer!

Banjo mania is sweeping the nation, and yes, the world. Don't risk getting left behind!

Thanks for the encouragement - fuel on the flame! It's nice to have a place to "vent" this sort of thing where folks understand :-))
"Banjo addition" is exactly right. But there are lots worse things to be addicted to, right?
banjotef, I have a bunch of HD stuff - some samples and some full length MP3s at ReverbNation.com/susanvinsonsherlock I'd be tickled to have you take a listen!
