Why is t that Hubers don't sell on the BHO? They are great banjos but they don's seem to have any resale value. I'm not trying to start an argument but just trying to under the dynamics of how just a great banjo (particularly the vintage model) won't sell.

I currently don't own a Huber. However, it is the brand I want to buy. Though they are wonderful instruments, in today's economy it's hard to fork over $4000 for a used instrument. Huber is know for that pre-war sound. But, there are conversion within the same budget. Just my observation.

I had my Lexington vintage in near mint condition for $2800 for a couple of months with no serious offers. That I don't understand and am trying to wrap my head around.

I understand. I do a lot of buying and trading on the hangout. It has been hard for me to move instruments that are worth more than around $2500. I think it could be for economic reason or that I'm not a very good salesman! LOL :)

For $5,000.00 I can buy a complete pre-war one piece flange Gibson Tenor, have an conversion Gibson neck built, cut the Rim for an HR-30, have the banjo completely assembled and ready to hit the stage. Huber Truetones are great Banjo's. So are pre-war conversions. It up to you to decide which way to go.

That Lexington is a beauty - it's not just Hubers, the banjo market has been noticeably slower the second half of 2013, particularly above the $2500 price point. You'll probably have better luck relisting it in February, as tax refund season hits.
Custom banjos are harder to resell, because you're looking for someone with the same aesthetics. It's also a wee bit harder to resell a radius necked model, again, a more specialized segment of the market.
Another issue is that while the vintage ring is great (I have one in a TB2 conversion), there is the perception that the HR-30 is better (after all, that's what Steve says). The buyer who's lusting after the "best on the market" will want the Truetone. Your likely market is the beginner/intermediate player who is ready to upgrade, but doesn't want to pop for the full $5K Truetone (around $4K used), again, an argument for tax refund season.

I agree with all the comments here.. And would also add that IMO it's really only people who have owned and played Huber's for a while who truly appreciate how good these banjos turn out to be. This is something that's very difficult to impart to a potential buyer who may not be able to play the instrument first. Have you tired a short video to help buyers appreciate the sound of your Huber? I've found that helpful in the past.

Nothing is selling anywhere especially on the hangout. The entire economy has to shift back positive before any other market bounces back. I have pre war conversions and Martin guitars for sale and Santa won't even email me.

There was a time when if I saw one in the classifieds, I was in awe. they just weren't any for sale. I thought it was interesting that a couple of months after the "new improved" Trutone Banjos were on the market there were already owners selling them, that told me something. I have a 2001 Lexington, it's a well built great sounding Banjo I wont part with it. I think the collectable Hubers in the future are going to be the original models not the Trutone.

I think the other guys hit the nail on the head. Probably our suffering economy is the biggest thing right now. I owned a Lancaster and now have a vintage Truetone. Huber sure makes a great sounding quality instrument. I really like mine. EE

I always find it astonishing that there are soon many used Huber Banjos available for sale. I've had mine from new and I would never sell or change it. They are IMHO the best new banjo you can buy. Nothing comes close to the feel, playability and awesome sound that the Huber Banjos offer as standard. Why would anyone sell one?
I'm looking for a really good conversion at the moment but I will never sell my Huber, regardless of what instrument I buy. It has been with me since i was 22/23 years old I've played almost every gig I've played with that banjo and never have I or my bandmates or most importantly my audience been disappointed.
You need to spend an awful lot more money on a really awesome conversion to get closer to the Pre-War sound than a new Huber banjo........Thing is, there's probably a 50% chance that an awesome conversion will be powered by an HR-30 ring.
