Snuffy Smith bridge on a Huber

From Ragtimejoe on 8/21/2013 3:45:00 PM

I just got a new Snuffy Smith bridge for my Huber and I have to say it surpassed the stock Huber bridge. I'm don't buy bridges very often, but I'm sold on these Snuffy Smith bridges. My Huber was louder and more solid sounding.

I have about 25 different bridges, and I use a Huber bridge on My Deering Calico.
It always seems to sound better when I first change a bridge. But then I go back, I don't know some make a big difference, others, not so much.
I change it up from time to time though. but for straight bluegrass I prefer the Huber.

My banjo is mostly a Huber and I have a tim Purcell bridge that I really love. Just got a new snuffy smith to try. I heard a lot of good things about them. Might get a chance to put it on tonight.

Glad to here you found a bridge you really like.

I've got a Snuffy on my Huber as well and I really like it. But at the same time, I've heard Huber bridges on other Hubers and old Gibsons that sound better than the Snuffy that preceded it...

I think it really varies from banjo to banjo

I agree with Banjov1. I really like Snuffy briidges. But I have Hubers that I like too. I think different bridges sound a little different from banjo to banjo, and setup. I guess thats why I have so many. A bridge is one of the biggest thinks you can change on your banjo to get a totally different sound/tone. I will have to say I bought a bridge from Tim Purcell for my TB1 conversion and it was awesome. So I had him make me another just like it. I have had all kinds and his was great!

I concur with others that a bridge can change the sound from banjo to banjo. On my Huber I use a Jesse Cole bridge that I'd hate to ever lose. It just helps produce a better sound than my Huber bridge did but on another banjo it might be the opposite. I think the best and cheapest option is to get with the bridge maker in person and try a number of their bridges. Most of the time this isn't feasible but if you get the chance it will improve the results.

I tried a few snuffys on my Huber truetone including the new snuffy new generation ,but I put my Huber back on ,just has that sound I want from my Huber ,however the snuffy new generation bridge sounds great on my stelling and Osborne

I also tried a Snuffy Smith bridge I had and my Roanoke lost its presence. Switched back to the Huber bridge.

I only use a Huber Bridge on my Huber..it makes sense.

I've tried 2 of the old Snuffy Smith bridges (made by Snuffy not Kat Eyz) on my Huber and on both occasions reverted back to the original Huber bridge within an hour or so.

However nothing and I mean NOTHING! Comes close to an SS on my R&T banjo.

Different bridges suit different banjo's in different ways. It pays to experiment but it does get expensive.

One of my friends has one of the old hot spot bridges, it sounds awesome on his banjo........ Put it on any of my banjos and it sounds terrible.
