When I try to browse my own video library, using the view all videos function, I can only see the video at the top of each of the 3 pages of videos that I have - and even that is only the top part of that entry.I'm using Chrome on a Mac.

Here's a link to the first of my three video pages: banjohangout.org/myhangout/vid...rID=47457

I know this may be a silly question, but... you tried scrolling down? Testing it over here, on a small enough screen size it will turn your view into a 1-column layout, with your first video on top, then the rest of your videos below that if you scroll down. It all works fine for me.

Of course I tried scrolling down. The screen is all white. And I'm watching it on a large monitor.

Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Well, I've taken a screenshot, but I haven't a clue how to post it here.

I'm going to try to paste a link here, but I doubt that this will work: Nope - that didn't work.

I'm trying again: Nope, that didn't work either.

So what I've done now is take a photo of my monitor, and posted that as an attachment. It's as close as I can come to posting a "screenshot". I hope this helps you to see the problem. Thanks

The issue seems to be specific to Chrome, which is the browser I use all the time. When I tried it with Safari, the whole archive is there and visible. I've only tried those two browsers, so I don't know how it works in other browsers.

Checking out the new website on on my android phone and there are definite improvements for a mobile touchscreen platform, but a few bugs.

1. Menu pops up briefly then disappears when loading a page.

2. Menu scrolling is odd. Scrolls up and down with main screen scrolling rather than on its own.

3. Cannot exit menu without selecting something. Inconvenient when you decide to quit the menu and go back to page.

4. Folder icon on forums homepage overlaps text slightly. Minor aesthetic issue. I question if folder icons are still needed as these look a little dated at this point.

I would post screenshots but I cannot figure out how to do that on the phone......

As with anything new, it always takes some time to get used to it to figure out how everything works. For example, I just got a new vehicle. I went from a 2004 regular cab Dodge Dakota to a 2016 crew cab Dodge Ram 1500. A lot has changed in 12 years as far as the options and all the bells and whistles for a vehicle goes, such as the touch screen controls, backup camera, dial knob shifter (kinda miss the column shifter), and even Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. As for the format of the website, I liked the old one as well as the new one. Since I'm usually on BHO via my iPhone, I'm starting to like the new format compared to the old since I don't have to zoom in and scroll back and forth to read a long post.

I'm not going to complain because hey, there could always not be a BHO...

You can be a meanie and delete your friends. cheeky

Actually, if you click the little gear for FriendFeed settings on your Friends page, you'll be taken to this page. If you uncheck all of those items and save changes, your FriendFeed will go away.

Eventually we'll have other info over there, like a list of currently online friends so you can chat with them 1 on 1. The idea is for that area to be the "what's happening with people you care about" spot.

The little gear doesn't give me FriendFeed settings, but your embedded link does.

G'day.Looking good but would prefer the links to Banjo/Guitar/Fiddle/Dobro/Mandolin at the top left as before or somewhere other than having to go to the bottom of videos to change from one instrument to another.

Great work mate.

Cheers,

Andy.

I haven't seen any fix, yet, in the attachment manager window, which on my iPad Pro 9.7, with safari browser, the window that comes up to upload three attachments is cut off mid- second attachment choice, so as to prevent me being able to access the option to save any uploads... so I can't share any screenshots here...

(and my original post about this has disappeared from this thread, too?)

hello

the new site is not so bad

one minor pbm I have : the right column (Under my name) is always truncated on the right side (text and pictures).

the left marging of this column is a bit too large, and the right one is inexistant or not large enough.

this happens both when I view the site in full screen or reduced screen.

also, I think the left hand column menu pop up boxes are not easy to use: dropdown would be better.

I use IE 11 version 11.1715.14393.0 on Windows 10 family edition

thanks for all the work

Hi Eric,
Appreciate all the effort to help us keep the site functional as the tech end of things continues to advance.

I'm on a Windows phone, using Edge browser. The Menu bar (left side column) pops up and down as I would expect, but when I try to scroll the Menu it does not move, the main page behind it scrolls instead. The secondary menus also drop down and close properly, it appears to be just a scrolling problem.

Thanks for giving us an easy way to post bugs and help problem solve.

Richard.

Hi LyndaBee,

Isn't the button to upload your attachments at the TOP of the list (not the bottom)? It is for photos at least...

There was lots wrong with what we had, but I won't get into it again since I've listed it several times elsewhere.

The new layout is already much more usable for a lot of folks compared to the old one. And it will continue to improve as we dial it in... please be patient.

CWB41 gets rid of the friends feed, but it doesn't reuse that space for forum posts so these are still in a narrow strip down the centre of the screen. Having got rid of my friends feed stuff I now see the link to my homepage and settings and an ad still taking up this column width. So I may as well reinstate my friends feed.

Aradobanjo - Posted - 09/16/2017:  04:49:41

Hello,

Either this is an new process need training or missing option. In classified ads, a seller should always add a link to the offer. Else, the while to see the offer is to select the profile, select more, and select classifieds. This round about way to see offers is discovered and not intuitive. Glad it was there.

But the window cuts off mid second attachment preventing me from uploading a third or from closing the window. I see only part of the window and can't finish the uploads or close it out as the whole rest of this window is now hidden inside l a window that won't let me scroll or resize to see the rest of it.

The interface is much better now on my Android phone!  But the "add attachments" link at the bottom doesn't seem to work.

kodakcollector - Posted - 09/16/2017:  06:42:36

I think the change is great. Works much better on my phone. Especially images.

The feature I would like to have added, is a share button, in classified ads...

I often want to send an ad to a friend and especially on my phone it is hard to copy the URL.. leave the ad go to email or message and then return.

I expect you are busy and if its already there, I will discover it!

Yes, the attachment tool isn't working well on phones and tablets. We'll make that a priority fix. (This applies to LyndaBee's post above, too!)

Don't like it...we old-timers don't like change, but we understand that millenial website geeks are restless

and have to do something to justify the cost of their peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and Chinese-made banjos.

The original format was fine, effective and familiar. You could establish a new banjo website - "BanjoNut.org" or

BanjoGeek.org" or "BanjoScheister.org", but please bring the cancelled one back.

I really don't like the colors on the new BHO. I think the colors on the other hangouts look pretty nice, though. Don't know why the most popular hangout got stuck with an ugly brown motif. Flatpicker Hangout, which only gets a new post every fortnight, looks a lot nicer to me.

fitch5string - Posted - 09/16/2017:  10:47:07

Eric, I'll have to say that this new site is much faster than the old one. Page loading is almost instant now. Its getting better.

From Greylock to Bean Blossom - Posted - 09/16/2017:  11:18:24

Change can be stressful. I visit the hangout almost everyday and as such it would be stressful for me if its capacity to deliver diminished!  As a person that loves banjo, life is so much better with this site. I have met nice people, great people and nice great people laugh. I have learned A LOT. It has opened doors for me. My enjoyment of all things banjo has increased greatly. Many frustrations I have had with banjo have gone. This site has been a lifeline to a whole new and great banjo community. So for those who leave because of this....I doubt banjo meant much to them.

Eric, keep up the work till it is up to your standards - which are high- and thank you!

Another feature that is missing but was good.

On a member's homepage there used to be a list of recent posts and activity with a link to go to all non archived posts.

Now it is completely missing.

Also, my question about the google ads has not been addressed. It is okay if they are now always there but that was a BHO Union benefit that is now gone.

Yigal Zan - Posted - 09/16/2017:  11:43:56

Fewer functions have up front clickers, so many more keystrokes and memorizing is necessary to get to where you want. As of time of writing I can't find a way to get to my videos. The clickers available at my home page do not take me to my videos. Clicking "Media" takes me to my mp3 files only, not the videos. To get to my tabs I have to click the fuzzy "More" clicker, and only then click "Tabs" - non intuitiveness plus extra keystroke.  The above pertain to BHO on computer.

I tried to visit the BHO site on my smart phone. Can't go into details, but in general found the new interface/site way less comfortable than the previous one. Otherwise the issue of not being able to get to my videos remains.

Finally, every one knows that computer, with its real keyboard, mouse, large rectangular screen, etc., is more comfortable than a smart phone. Although I do not have a proof, I assume that people who have smart phones also have computers. If they elect to go the less comfortable way and spent time on BHO using their smartphones, then, their not being very comfortable is their fault. Why should those who use computers be punished for the not too clever choices of other?

Hi Joel,

Member's recent activity is under the "Activity" tab on their homepage. It's only hidden if they've chosen to hide it via their privacy options.

Re: "Google" ads.... no, nothing changed there. You're probably seeing the new, text-only versions of our sponsor ads which show up in lieu of banner graphics when you're in the mobile view of the site. If you want to post a screenshot of what you're seeing I can confirm that.

Eric,

I go to marketplace and then to banjos and all i see is a 12 page list of banjos with no organization. They used to have a list of thebanjo makers and what banjos of theirs were for sale. I am not seeing this now. IMO this is vital to have.

thanks,

ps I just found the maker list by going to classifieds. Maybe that is a little bit of an indirect and not logical way to see the list.

Hi Yigal,

Your videos are available on your homepage under "Media". They're at the bottom of the list. (Below MP3's and photos). I'm going to move them to the top of that section, since videos are the most popular media type. But they ARE there, along with a link to view all your videos.

We're going to dial in the buttons available on your homepage (Activity, Blog, Friends, Media, etc) to hide buttons that aren't needed, and show buttons where you've posted content. Hopefully that will get "Tabs" out there more obviously when the situation calls for it.

Re: your comment, "Why should those who use computers be punished for the not too clever choices of other?" It's a fair question. Our goal here is not to punish anyone, but to make the site work really well for everybody. That's a tall order, of course, and it may be that, especially in this early stage, the desktop version feels a bit odd in terms of layout because we've improved the site for small screens. We'll keep working to improve the layout for everyone.

(By the way, statistics show that the majority of web browsing today is done via mobile phones and tablets. So, while it would be nice to just say "Use your computer, it's a better experience!" that's just not reality. If you don't make your site mobile friendly, you'll lose gobs of users... it's that simple.

One glitch that remains to be fixed is the disappearance of the number of the search pages at the bottom of the first (or second) search page. It is all okay when I see 10 pages listed (1, 2, 3, etc.) of results at first, but then boom! when I go to the second page of search results, and scroll down, those remaining 8 numbers for those remaining pages, are nowhere to be seen.

Hi Eric,

When clicking on "From the Forum - Newest Topics," scrolling down several pages and opening a topic, is there a way to close the topic and return to the last page that one was on?  I always seem to wind up all the way back on page 1, then have to scroll again to get to where I was.  BTW, this is not new to the redesign.  Using Firefox/Windows 7.

Thanks.
