I put jam or jelly of some kind. My wife puts salt & pepper on hers.

I've honestly never thought of putting anything on cottage cheese, nor known anyone who did. But now that you bring it up, I think some fruit cocktail would be okay.
pandjlocke - Posted - 07/31/2011: 19:56:08
Usually just some pepper, but sometimes I like a little cajun seasoning.
dmiller - Posted - 07/31/2011: 20:30:32
We put strawberry jam on cottage cheese for the guys who live in the group home I work at.
They love it as a side dish to whatever else is being served for lunch/ supper/ etc. ![]()

I haven't had cottage cheese in a decade at least. Not my fave dairy product by a long shot.
paulaschumm - Posted - 08/01/2011: 04:12:23
When I was a kid, Dad put sugar on his cottage cheese. Of course, we kids did the same. It was years before I could eat cottage cheese plain.

I love it plain but do like to mix fresh blueberries in it. I also like to scoop it up like dip on Ritz or Wheat Thins.

Sour cream. And like Micki, tomatoes.
We also put cottage cheese on egg noodles.
Robxx - Posted - 08/01/2011: 06:59:32
I've not had any for years because I didn't like it, but it could be not so bad with some the ideas put forward.
Mopick - Posted - 08/01/2011: 07:27:48
Pepper. Then put that on a canned peach half or pineapple ring.

My favorite hot sauce comes from a place in Missouri of all places. REALLY hot, but great flavor. On the label, it lists usages and one of them is cottage cheese. For years I laughed at the notion until I tried it. It's all I put on it any more.
Prof - Posted - 08/01/2011: 08:24:47
Typically just black pepper. Peaches are good. My grandpa used to put French dressing in his! I never liked it that way, though.
gdoc - Posted - 08/01/2011: 08:38:23
dawgdoc, I've been looking for the perfect hot sauce forever. Some are hot with no flavor, some have nice flavor, but not hot (tabasco is MILD MILD MILD, even their new ones.)
What is the name of the one you like? With internet nowdays, I get a lot of things like that on line if I can't find it here.

I'm a hot sauce snob. I would bet you that there are at least 10 different ones in our fridge. My absolute, all time favorite comes from the Mexican Villa restaurant in Springfield, Missouri of all places. For years, I would wait until a relative was coming this way (Idaho) and they would bring me a case of it. I never thought to look until this morning when you asked. Much to my joy, you can order it online! I'm ordering some today.

p.s. and I lived in Arizona for 8 years and never found one I liked as much....

Dirt.
Preferably sufficient dirt to keep the damn stuff from rising up like a zombie in the dead of night.
I don't like it...unless it is cooked in something; suitably modified to no longer look or taste like CC.
My mom usually served us a pear half with a scoop of CC dolloped on top. Heck, I wouldn't even eat the pear. Defiled, y'know. ![]()

Paula, my dad used to put sugar on too, so I did also. Now you couldn't PAY me to eat it with sugar, but peaches or other fruit is good. Mostly I eat it plain, but I'm going to try some of the other ideas I have just read. Thanks for asking the question, bud.
Nymphadora - Posted - 08/01/2011: 10:15:38
I put both Splenda to sweeten it, and sugar to counteract the Splenda. Then I add milk. I really DO put the two together.... if I didn't I would have a dangerous amount of sugar. A boss I had years ago would completely cover it with black pepper until he couldn't see any white at all. We could not even get into the kitchen until the pepper cloud had vanished. I really don't see how he could even eat it. My husband puts Louisiana Hot Sauce on it. Hugs.....

Flaxseed oil (refrigerated), black or blue berries and then blend the two with the (low fat) cottage cheese (using an electric blender) until smooth. I let the mix set for ten minutes before eating. For me, it's both tasty and healthy.

We used to eat it with potato chips like a dip.
Now that we are older and fatter we eat pineapple with it and no chips.

A bacon cheeseburger. Then I eat the burger and leave the cottage cheese.
drew-gurbach - Posted - 08/01/2011: 15:10:47
In my case, it's not what you put ON the cottage cheese:
Boil a bag of wide egg noodles, drain... then mix in the cottage cheese and a half stick of butter... I'm told it's a Hungarian thing. Real easy, done in 10 minutes.

Cottage cheese is an abomination of nature. It ranks right up there with rice cakes and cauliflower, and it should be avoided at all costs, let alone be consumed.
Bacon, on the other hand...
farmer bob - Posted - 08/01/2011: 18:57:36
Ziti pasta lightly browned in olive oil with onions and very thin chips of roast beef. Then the last minute dump on a big slug of cottage cheese. Let it melt in a minute then eat with a topping of margarine and ketchup. That is one of my all time favorite cottage cheese recipes I got from my mom... Bob.
pickNgrin - Posted - 08/02/2011: 05:06:40
The only time I ever eat it is if I get a salad at a salad bar... I always get a little cottage cheese on the side. I just put black pepper on it.
Here is a prank that I have thought about be never tried. Put some cottage cheese into a carton of fresh milk in the fridge. Then later, when someone is watching, take it out and pour it into a glass, making sure that they see the lumps. Sniff it, shug, and then drink it down! ![]()

Cottage cheese + Apple butter = Tastes just like apple pie.

Bob Steele, a well known local radio announcer from Hartford Ct. would often promote putting cottage cheese into your scrambled eggs while they were frying. I tried it and it's very tasty, probably healthy too!
Quality 4% butterfat cottage cheese is great with tomatoes, fruit and salads. It makes a nice last minute snack if you get the hungries right before you go to bed. I've also mixed it with pasta dishes if it is on my plate!

Fruit, preferably pineapple, or vegetables (tomato, cuke, radish, scallion). I hate it in lasagne. Lasagne with bechamel sauce and bolognese is more work, but it's worth it.
Brian T - Posted - 08/12/2011: 10:09:29
A sprinkle of salt, lots of fine dice chives, stir it up and eat it tomorrow.
Most of it goes on the dog's food.
