I see all the empty units in my building and all the empty parking spaces around the other buildings in my development and wonder where the people went. There's probably 20 units currently for sale and I'm sure there's another 10-15 that are vacant and probably will be for sale soon.
I hope that all those people who lost their homes have managed to find somewhere to live.

I have to share this email I just got from a friend:
Hi everybody,
When I got up this morning, I started to look through the news during breakfast. I had never expected to read
"Efforts to reach Christ for comment were unsuccessful."
in a serious news article. But there it was in a story coming out of Alabama. I wonder how the reporter felt writting that line in the story.

What blows me away are all the big stores that are now empty. Old K-marts and grocery stores and stuff like that. What a waste. You would think people could somehow put them to humanitarian use.
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/02/2009: 08:37:35
Yeah, it used to drive me nuts when there would be an empty shopping center or strip mall and then they'd be building a brand new one right across the street.
In the DC area other stores tend to take over a lot of those empty buildings. Like a bunch of the closed Kmarts are now Walmarts. I think the zoning here is challenging to new construction so stores are willing to "settle" for the old buildings.
1four5 - Posted - 12/02/2009: 09:09:07
In Wichita, we are seeing the explosion of the "Superstores" Super Wal-Marts, Super Targets, Full service super grocerie stores etc... All rebuilding new, bigger, better... leaving their old buildings, totally empty all over the place. There is nothing but room here...drive in any direction for 10 minutes and you are out on the open plains. They could build super Wal-marts for the next 200 years, make all the wheat farmers and ranchers mad... but still not run out of room.
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/02/2009: 09:55:27
It was very much like that in my hometown.
I guess there's something to be said about city life.
dat - Posted - 12/02/2009: 10:40:53
the big stores are building bigger and the little places are going out of business
JackJack - Posted - 12/02/2009: 13:09:59
The residents where I live fight tooth and nail to keep out the big corporations so that the Mom & Pop stores with continue to survive. But, slowly and little by little those big corps are using their heavy weight money influences, and are slowly moving in with lower prices and more selection. Hopefully all the residents will stay true and support the local small businesses.

I haven't shopped at a walmart in years, don't plan on it either
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/02/2009: 13:55:39
I refuse to go to Walmart. ![]()
After my last couple of trips to Target, I'm thinking I shouldn't shop there any longer.
![]()
I do shop a lot on Etsy.
I don't know that you get much smaller than that. ![]()
JackJack - Posted - 12/02/2009: 14:33:44
I'm still thinking about starting to commence to begin a shop on Etsy. I just need something to sell. I axed the banner idea, doing custom designs gets way too subjective for most clients, and I already do that on a daily basis. I need something new to do with my creativity.![]()

My wife's etsy site http://www.etsy.com/shop/houndscloset is smoking hot, it's keeping her VERY busy!

I need to do more promoting of my store.
I've been having some difficulties lately with taking pictures, though. With the sun being lower in the sky, I got terrible shadows on the last set of pictures I took. And I haven't been happy with the pictures I've managed to take inside.
dat - Posted - 12/03/2009: 08:40:14
I don't go to Target either, last time I went in there I was looking for some BB's, they said " oh no, we don't sell any kind of projectiles" I left, even the gas stations sell BB's

If you want to see some scary stuff, check out Regretsy. They show some of the truly scary listings.

I've always liked the idea of guitar (or banjo) straps with pockets. (for picks, tuners...etc)
JackJack - Posted - 12/03/2009: 10:58:03
Yeah! I can make it out of socks! Like, a sock monkey/instrument strap with pockets.![]()
JackJack - Posted - 12/03/2009: 14:23:09
And egg shells in roofing tar!![]()
What are we're talking about? I forget.

It was maybe 6 or 7 years ago or so and Quiznos sub shop had a run of totally bazaar comercials featuring the "spongmonkeys" and the website they originated from got pretty popular for awhile. I googled it and it's still there. check out a couple of the "classics" you might remember them. I apologize right now for directing you there. Some people laugh, some people can't understand them, some people just throw up. I think they are great. Please don't think less of me![]()

I don't like peanuts. But I do like the salt at the bottom of the peanut jar.
dat - Posted - 12/04/2009: 10:09:52
ya'll remember peanut butter with the oil on top you had to mix up?

That's one of the thigns I miss about my big dog. I could feed her stuff like that without feeling like I was going to make her fat.
I don't give my current dog much of anything outside of his regular food. He definitely doesn't need the calories. And he's still a bit on the pudgy side.
JackJack - Posted - 12/04/2009: 15:34:11
That got to be humiliating. I bet he's not included in the reindeer dog games.![]()
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/04/2009: 17:44:34
The pitbulls next door think he's an afternoon snack and the St. Bernard upstairs once sat on him.
Someone was once trying to convince me that walking my dog would be a good way to meet men. I told her I was embarassed by my dog and didn't think he was a good advertisement for my personality.
1four5 - Posted - 12/04/2009: 18:45:40
my dogs think small dogs are rabbits... sometime our runs turn into really good workouts...

IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!
Like big huge snowfakes. First snow fall of the year and it's not one of those "oh, was that a snow flake I just saw?"

Day two of having 4 of my wisdom teeth removed...
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/05/2009: 09:25:18
Eek! No fun.
I've been lucky enough to avoid that one so far but I know it's coming. I'm not at all looking forward to it.

Only two of mine have. But the last time I went to the dentist she took an xray and showed me how even the ones that haven't come out yet are pressing forward against my other teeth. Somewhere down the road that may cause a problem.
