Or build a snow fort and bomb school buses with snowballs. That's what we did growing up!

dat - Posted - 02/05/2010:  12:25:56

we never had enough snow to do anything like that, we'ld crawl off in the ditch or creek and throw mud balls

JackJack - Posted - 02/05/2010:  13:44:04

One Summer, because there wasn't any snow and we were bored, we decide to throw crab apples at cars. There were about eight of us in Brad's backyard, and we were whipping them at every car that drove by. We were having a hay-day, nailing cars and watching them keep driving on by without any indication that the driver was paying any attention to the pinging sound of ricocheting apples off the hoods and windows of their car.

Until we hit that one guy square in the jaw.

We took off running like a pack of antelope with a lion on their tail. Not only were we dumb enough to throw apples, but we ran in a pack, never splitting up. The guy caught only one of us (the slowest), but since we were so dumb, we all stopped! He marched us right back to Brad's front door and rang the doorbell. His mom answered, she sent us home, called our parents, and I didn't get to see Brad or the rest of them until the end of the Summer.

I guess this is what they mean when they say "One day, you'll look back and laugh."

even getting in trouble it was still fun

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/05/2010:  15:46:14

There was one year we got a pretty good storm and I was driving somewhere. I passed these kids who were perched rather precariously on top of a snow pile throwing huge chunks of ice at passing cars. I called the police. I figured either they were going to hurt someone or they were going to fall into the street and get hit by a car.

I guess I'm a spoil sport.

JackJack - Posted - 02/05/2010:  16:27:28

Well, running from the police is a whole other sport. You probably gave them a whole new challenge to their game.

I once ran from police when I was a kid. I wasn't doing anything to run for (I swear), but they chased me anyway, and I stopped because I remembered Grandpa says "police are the good guys". Well, they put me in their cop car and asked me why I was running from them and I said "I don't know." After awhile of this similar Q&A they just let me go. I think we were all a little confused about the situation.

I wasn't a very smart kid.

1four5 - Posted - 02/05/2010:  17:25:40

I didn't run, and they throwed me in jail. But then, I was too drunk to run anyways. Sure am glad that was a loooooooooooooong time ago.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/05/2010:  18:08:39

The police don't usually bug me. I did have one stop me once because I was crying and he was afraid that somebody he'd seen walking behind me might have been harassing me or something.

1four5 - Posted - 02/05/2010:  19:42:59

I got out of going to jail one night, because I crashed my car... and was bleeding too much in the cop car. They dropped me off at the hospital. Dang nurse... I'll NEVER forget... no pain killer and 18 stitches... and she yanked every one extra tight

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/06/2010:  05:05:48

Just took the dog out. It is totally silent out there. I've lived here for three years and it's never been silent. There are no cars on the interstate. Wow.

1four5 - Posted - 02/06/2010:  19:33:13

I live in the city, it's never been quiet, ever

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/07/2010:  08:28:53

Some people are out and about. Still not back to normal, but at least folks are getting dug out. I got my car shoveled out but I'm not planning to go anywhere until tomorrow.

We're expecting more snow on Tuesday.

1four5 - Posted - 02/08/2010:  02:18:29

when it snows, we can go outside and hear people crashing. I live near a hospital, when the ambulances run in the snow, it's pandomonium

Mornin, Monday again

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/08/2010:  06:25:45

No work for me today while they finish clearing snow at the college.

I've got a couple of deadlines this week that are going to be a bit challenging to meet.

dat - Posted - 02/08/2010:  08:52:35

you can do it waterboy

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/08/2010:  10:01:40

I had a doctors appointment this morning. Went out to my car and discovered that all the shoveling I'd done yesterday to clear a path to my door was for nothing--I had to wade through two feet of snow to get into the car. Luckily they hadn't piled anything behind the car so I was able to back out okay. By the time I was back, they've cleared three spaces where only two had been, so that's good.

But they're talking about another 5-10 inches tomorrow.

I have some emails to send out to about 50 people and I think I can do that from home, so that will help some.

dat - Posted - 02/08/2010:  10:15:50

have you ever shoveled out your car then come home to find somebody parking in the spot you shoveled out?

Yeah! My own brother!

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/08/2010:  13:00:15

Folks here put up chairs or something in their spaces and everyone seems to be pretty good about respecting that.

I just got an updated forecast. Now they're talking 10-20 inches starting tomorrow at noon. I'm wondering if I'm going to go to work at all this week. My downstairs neighbor had borrowed my spare shovel and came by to return it. I told he to hang onto it because he was definitely going to need it.

dat - Posted - 02/08/2010:  14:05:29

see ifin he'll shovel an extra spot for you with the loan of the shovel

1four5 - Posted - 02/08/2010:  18:39:28

They even closed school down here in kansas today, for only 7" and most of it melted already

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/08/2010:  20:21:43

Somebody stole my space. I think it was the person I helped to dig out when I left to go to my concert, just their other car.

I have wished a year's worth of nasty wedgies and athlete's foot on them.

1four5 - Posted - 02/09/2010:  02:12:22

That wouldn't be a very fun year

dat - Posted - 02/09/2010:  05:51:01

I shouldn'y have mentioned somebody stealing a parking spot

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/09/2010:  08:48:50

I had an early morning doctor's appointment. When I got back my space was available again, so I took it.

I stopped at my doctor's office on the way back (the appointment was at a different office) and their parking lot is totally clear. I'm half tempted to move my car down there until the snow melts. But not during the snow today. I wouldn't want to have to dig myself out of an empty parking lot. Here at least they'll be working on snow removal and hopefully get things cleared out enough for my Thursday morning appointment.

Forrest - Posted - 02/09/2010:  08:57:04

Don't you love it when your favorite parking spot is free?

dat - Posted - 02/09/2010:  08:58:32

you need one of these

JackJack - Posted - 02/09/2010:  13:59:17

I have heard a tale from the mid-west, of cars and trucks that can be started with a click of a button from inside your home so that you can pre-warm the vehicle before getting into it.

Is this to be true?

It's been a looooong time since I've had to deal with snow.

dat - Posted - 02/09/2010:  14:56:17

it's twooo, it's twooo
sorry 'bout that, just thinking about Lily Von Stupp from Blazing Saddles

JackJack - Posted - 02/09/2010:  14:58:13

We we?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/09/2010:  15:23:27

I have a friend who has one of those cars. He loves it.

I remember test driving a car with heated seats once and that was heavenly!

dat - Posted - 02/09/2010:  15:27:43

nice when it works, expensive when it's out of warranty

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/09/2010:  16:12:41

Sounds like the air conditioner I'm going to have to fix.

JackJack - Posted - 02/09/2010:  17:44:21

Well, you don't have to worry about that right now. It's the heater you need to keep working, right now.

1four5 - Posted - 02/09/2010:  18:17:01

My wife's HHR has a remote starter. We were in the pizza place last night, and she says "look, my car is warming up for us" and she was right...

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/09/2010:  18:27:33

No work for me tomorrow....

dat - Posted - 02/10/2010:  05:41:43

OM45GE - Posted - 02/10/2010:  10:50:38

So far it's just flurries. More is supposedly on the way. I say bring it on!

No work for me tomorrow....

This has officially been the snowiest winter on record for the DC area. And we've still got a ways to go!

JackJack - Posted - 02/10/2010:  16:04:36

Better start knitting some warm long johns. And throw in an extra pair for that poor girl, she looks cold.

1four5 - Posted - 02/10/2010:  17:14:53

where are all the global warming people now?

JackJack - Posted - 02/10/2010:  17:52:04

Oh, oh. Don't go there. We've come close many times getting this thread locked, but thank God moderators never check in here.

Whoops. I said God.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/10/2010:  18:48:09

It's still snowing....

JackJack - Posted - 02/10/2010:  19:27:01

Make sure you got an air hole.

1four5 - Posted - 02/11/2010:  02:19:45

it's all melting in Kansas

dat - Posted - 02/11/2010:  05:51:12

it's actually snowing here, they say we may get an inch or two, a little farther north they say it could get up to 3 to 4 inches. I don't know what to do about these bad winters
