When my brother started spinning a few years ago, I asked him if he did it to meet women. He said no, but if it happens that's ok too (He's a single highly paid college professor in Vermont). It was several months before I found out that "spinning" wasn't a fitness class he was attending ... he has sled dogs and spins their fur...

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/17/2010:  13:29:19

Single, professional, male, spinner.....

What's his phone number?

Makes one wonder if anyone has actually met their significant other on Twitter.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Sign on my brother's front door "Love me- Love my four big sled dogs"
He actually does the sled dog thing, and they take off and go cruzing in the snow. He was married once, but I don't think his x could hang with the dogs.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/17/2010:  17:26:07

Do you think his dogs would eat my cats?

1four5 - Posted - 05/17/2010:  18:19:58

I don't think so. He used to have cats to, and his dogs didn't eat them. I don't know if he still has any cats though. He had two brothers, Tiger and MyGuy that he loved dearly, but that was over 10 years ago. I don't know if they are still around.

dat - Posted - 05/18/2010:  05:54:39

would Mr Quimby the cat get along with more dogs?

1four5 - Posted - 05/18/2010:  08:19:59

Mr. Quimby could ride on the sled

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/18/2010:  08:28:04

As long as it doesn't interfere with nap time or dinner, Mr. Quimby is pretty cool about stuff.

My cat has never seen snow. I wonder what she would think.... actually, no I don't. I know exactly what she would think.

"This sucks. Let me back inside. Now."

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/18/2010:  12:22:15

This is Mr. Quimby and Zigamaboo checking out the snow this winter. Zig was funny. She'd put her foot down on the top of the snow and be like "Oh, a solid surface" and then step onto it and her foot would sink all the way and she'd snatch is back with this look on her face like "what the heck!"

dat - Posted - 05/18/2010:  12:57:18

looks to cold to be outside unless you're duck hunting

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/18/2010:  13:29:08

Or shoveling you car out...

JackJack - Posted - 05/18/2010:  14:57:41

Or, sitting in a heated hot tub after a day on the ski slopes.

1four5 - Posted - 05/18/2010:  16:16:28

Them kittys better man-up and dive into that snow if they are going to be sled dog cats...

dat - Posted - 05/19/2010:  06:02:26

how many cats would it take to pull a sled?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/19/2010:  06:25:04

A better question might be how much tuna would you need to actually motivate the cats to get up from their naps?

1four5 - Posted - 05/19/2010:  07:10:50

Would a lazer light work?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/19/2010:  08:18:57

Only if they're already awake.

An can opener might work. My mom's cats would come flying when they heard her electric can opener.

1four5 - Posted - 05/19/2010:  08:39:56

Ours come running just from the pull tab on the little cans! but they have a hard time beating the dogs to the kitchen. Hello dogs... nacho food...

JackJack - Posted - 05/19/2010:  10:02:19

A team of cats pulling a sled? I think it might look something like this, just trying to get them harnessed together.

dat - Posted - 05/19/2010:  10:12:50

I hate to say it, but that cat wouldn't be happy after that

1four5 - Posted - 05/19/2010:  11:02:25

Cheetas could pull a sled a 50 mph

That's one pist off kitty.

I can see it now... a snow sleigh, harnessed to a dozen clones of Cheetah, being driven by Tarzan, going 50 mph over ice and snow, while Jane -- wearing a scantly bit of leopard print bikini -- holds on to Tarzan for dear life. Painted by Frank Franzetta, of course.

If I don't see another vet bill for six months, I think I'll cough up a hairball out of sheer joy.

Our 3rd greyhound just got spayed... she comes home Saturday

dat - Posted - 05/20/2010:  10:49:45

keep the mechanical rabbits away for a week or so after that surgery

flake - Posted - 05/20/2010:  11:22:49

In the last two months we've spent about five hundred dollars for individual doses of flea medicines (Advantage, Frontline) and all kinds of sprays. Yesterday, Chief needed antibiotics and all kinds of other sh*t to get him back on his huge kitty feet.........$245.

Ear mites......worms.........jeez......I hope they're happy. They're using equine bedding for litter because we can get it in forty pound bags at Tractor Supply. Eight bags at a time.

I'm thinking of sleeping in the stuff.

Can't you just give them a pill?

We buy the large dog frontline, and one thingy does all three greyhounds

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/20/2010:  19:26:45

I have somehow been lucky enough to never have a flea problem in all the years I've had pets.

that would be fun, and a lot easier to pack in your camping gear

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/21/2010:  05:47:08

Very cool. I enjoyed reading about how he built his team--a dog here and a dog there. And I have a great mental image of his little Hobbit village.

Dean, you keep postin' stuff like that you may be getting a new sister-in-law

That would be cool My brother deserves it, really good guy.
BTW, I didn't even know how he got into sled dogs until I read that article. Very ironic.

dat - Posted - 05/21/2010:  08:08:41

I think 'Niffer disapeared when I wrote that

1four5 - Posted - 05/21/2010:  08:21:22

She's booking a flight to Vermont

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/21/2010:  08:57:26

I love Vermont, although it's been years since I've been up that way.

1four5 - Posted - 05/21/2010:  10:22:42

My brother doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, and is into health foods. I think he even did a stint as a vegitarian, but I don't know if he's stuck with it. Before the dogs, he's also always loved his cats. Last time I visited him was 1997. last time I saw him was 2005. We e-mail once or twice a year and he always calls at Christmas. We always talk about our animals.

dat - Posted - 05/21/2010:  10:33:44

my brother drinks, smokes, dips, cusses like he's been in the military all his life (he pretty much has) eats beef, pork, yardbird, hunts and has that I'll yank a knot in your tail look if you mess with me, but he'll do anything in the world for you, he doesn't care for cats or even dogs much but likes big motors in small jeeps. I wouldn't reccomend him to anybody besides his bride

1four5 - Posted - 05/22/2010:  01:12:39

Sound like my x wife

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/22/2010:  16:25:50

Long day at work today. And tomorrow I'm back in at 7:30am. Gotta love horse show weekends.
