Liz got her new stainless chimney flew put up taday..
Fergot to take a pic..
Set up some furnatchuer in the cabin..
Oh n got a load of belgum blocks taday fr the chimney ..
Biddy gave them to me ..left ovahs from one of his jobs..
Bout 2 thirds of a pallet..

I'm waiting to see that 10" [or maybe it's a 12] "tenderizer" in action [i.e. the one on the left edge of the stove in this pic ... if you look down from the chicken].  devil

Next time i think i will not worry about brownin the bird..
N..a little wood goes a long way...
The center is still too rare.. so fer chickin i'm thinkin spatchcock..is the way to go..

This thing cooks differnt..n i'll halfta learn..
As fer this bird..we will just finish it off in the Oster Ovin.. :0)

The other thing i learned is the item that is being cooked needs to be about 2 to 3 inches closer to the tip..
As the is much more heat towards that side of the flue..
That is why i used that piece of wood to close off some of the opening..
Less cold air draft by the bird..

Liz here:
The chicken experiment was a roaring success! Very tender, with nice crispy skin. I shoved lots of garlic paste under the skin and covered the whole thing with Hot Dirty Bird. It went for almost 2 hours in the rocket stove and we finished it off in the electric oven for 20 mins or so as it was still red inside. Very tasty! The leftovers will make good sandwiches too.

Al, do the ashes get removed from the same hole that the wood goes in, or is there a separate opening/pan?

[Or has that been covered and I just wasn't paying enough attention?]

I plan to add some lenth to an ash shovel..n remove it from the air intake..
