The most important thing I learned is…………………I won’t be complaining about grocery prices or dining out prices in our area ever again!!! I have NO CLUE how people, especially the locals, can survive and live on the Hawaiian Islands.
Maybe that’s why they are all leaving!!! Prices at grocery stores and dining out are shocking and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I knew it was high, but never thought those prices were possible.
Campbell’s can of tomato soup $3.89. Frozen pizzas. $12.00 to 25.00
2 liter Coke. $6.49 Cereal- none under $6.00. Cigarettes 18-23 bucks!!!
Produce was a joke and dairy is limited IMO.
I guess that’s the price you pay to live in “paradise “ .

As an antidote, I recommend the Trader Joe's marinara sauce--really good and only $1.99 a jar.
We traveled north yesterday to the shores of Lake Superior in Munising, Michigan, Christmas , Mi. and Au Train, Mi. Stopped at or favorite food truck Captain Ron’s fish & chips owned by Matson’s Fisheries. Fresh caught Whitefish and Lake Trout. Both of whichI hate, but fresh out of Lake Superior it is phenomenal and they do a great job!!! They were featured on Gordon Ramsay’s show Uncharted with Captain Ron being featured. RIP Ron.

Last night was Chicken Kabobs with a very light amount of sweet & spicy Bulgogi BBQ sauce. Kabobs never sound good to me, but I always like them. Maybe I just hate assembling them as I always get stuck with that task.
Bet they’d taste even better if somebody else made em !!! Hint , Hint.

Meatballs-a combination of hamburger, ground venison, and hot Italian sausage with red onion and a package of onion soup mix along with the usual crumbs, etc. Baked in ramekins with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Some broccoli-first time I've used frozen rather than fresh. It wasn't too bad. Garlic bread with the daughter-in-law's homemade boule, and I made up a batch of garlic confit for for me.

Tonight was to be steak and potato, etc. As the evening turned out…Marilyn harvested a bunch of an our parsley and made a standard: tabouli. I had thawed out a steak the day before. Turns out I had thawed out a 1.5” or so well marbled chuck. I cooked it like a steak on the grill. Along with a salt crusted potato. It was darn good. A happy accident! Brad

I love a good chuck steak/roast. They are the perfect cut for Sous Vide for a minimum of 6 hrs. all the way to 24 hrs at 132F and then hard seared on the grill. Foolproof and tender as can be. Not to mention as much flavor as ANY good cut.

I will definitely keep watch for sales on this cut, and its marbling. I will thinly slice chilled remainder for sandwiches of some kind. Brad
I’ve had some really good meals recently, but have been Jonesing for Enchiladas or a good Mexican meal but choices in our area are a joke , soooooooooooo, I made spiced ground beef enchiladas made with really good tortillas , and Mrs. Slammer made the homemade Enchilada sauce and Cuban beans. I believe I’ve talked bout her Cuban beans before. Christ on Ice Skates are they good!!! A little rice, asparagus and salad picante. Best meal we’ve had in a long time, we both said it !!!

My mother made Salisbury steak and it was always a cheap round steak pounded , floured , fried and then braised in a tomato and onion gravy. Hated it as a kid, but would kill for it now. When I got married , Mrs. Slammer made Salisbury steak and it was in brown gravy and ground meat like little meatloafs . WFT!!!
Didn’t know there were different kinds. What say you all ?
I enjoy both, but do love a good tomato gravy.

Yup, we finally started getting Yuengling beer is finally here in da U.P.
I’ve had it plenty in New York when visiting my daughter, but now available in Wisconsin and Michigan. A little hoppy but nothing like a IPA which I hate.
It’s growing on me and…………….
It’s fun to say!!!
