Ol Slammer would NEVER put green peppers on a pie !!! I get it though.
You’re forgiven!!!
Travelled to Milwaukee today to bring my 89 yr old mother up to da U.P. for a week for Thanksgiving. She’s right off da boat from Sicily and although she doesn’t make them by hand anymore, she made me the lightest fluffiest store bought gnocchi with spinach tomato sauce. Italian and Polish sausage to go with it.
You should see the load of homemade cookies and homemade pretzels she made that we’re taking up to da U.P. !!! Thanks Ma !!!
Slammer!!!
When my daughters agree to do the cooking, I just go along and keep my mouth shut. My DIL served in the Peace Core decades ago-in Kazakstan. Here was the bill of fare. The theme was mushrooms! (Actually, was all quite good) This weekend Marilyn and I will share a more typical American Thanksgiving fare. Brad
Chicken Pot Pie. Here in various northern latitudes, tis the season for soups, stews, and other hearty meals. I need to make another run at that Shepherd's Pie Soup, which has a lot of potential if I get it a bit closer. But that's for another day...
Today, and as usual, I fudged a recipe depending on my wants and what was available. I also made a mistake, which is a rather common to my somewhat inept brain. In this instance I used phyllo dough, which would probably have been fine for individual pies in ramekins as proscribed by my recipe, but I made this in a large Dutch oven, which would have worked better with regular dough. Oh well. So it goes.

It's nice you have that with your ma. And her foods and treats. Brad
Thanks Brad, she is a Gem for sure!!! 89 , sharp as a tack, walks a mile every day, has her own home, goes to church every day, never ending network of friends and loved by everyone!!! Ya might say she has it all.
Her one caveat is………she put the FRU in Frugal!!! Ma, you have a ton of money in the bank, you don’t need to wash out bread bags to freeze stuff.
They actually sell new ones ……50 in a box!!! LOL. Probably why she has what she has and living through the Depression era didn’t help.
Today she is making her Christmas Stolen (15) for gifts and this weekend she will be making loaves of Sultz. She ordered her ham hocks and other bits and I’m picking those up for her today. Even though she is Sicilian right off the boat, she married a German and learned these traditional recipes from my Dads grandmother and has carried on the tradition for many years.
How lucky am I to still have her in our life and to share her with my 4 grandsons!!!
