We did that turkey for Thanksgiving one year when my parents were alive. It wouldn't fit in the oven--we had to build an outdoor smoker and buy a special restaurant pan that cost more than the turkey itself. We were getting ready to serve dinner and my mom said "All I want is a drumstick"...well, that drumstick took up the entire plate, and all we heard was "Oh my god..."
Talk about pterodactyl wings!
One thing I refuse to make at home is a prime rib. Had bad luck in the past and always been disappointed. Guess I can’t be good at EVERYTHING!!! lol
That’s a great how to video , although I wouldn’t want to do all the damn dishes the way they did it. Also, I’d be flossing with that string they used to tie it up, right after I got done sucking the juice out of it.
No good prime rib restaurants in our area……..damn.
Slammer!!!

What's an "oven"? What's a "pan"?

That's my chicken above, and I've cooked fish the same way. I've also seen (and eaten the wonderful results) of such roasting with whole steers, lamb, etc.
I haven't done this at my new place because I just can't figure out where to safely do it. I've thought of building a wood fired brick oven to cook bread and meat, with an asado pit on the side, but I'm skeptical of how often I'd use it, and can't figure out where it would go.

Motor? I'd be pondering the merits of hand cranked geared v planetary tuners. I'd probably go for geared, but you know your schwenker better than I do. ![]()

The original recipe called for browning the onions in the skillet, then moving them to a baking dish to add the other ingredients. I am lazy about cleaning pots and pans, so I cooked the onion in an oven-proof skillet (with a lid) and then added the rest of the stuff into it, then put the skillet to the pre-heated oven. Actually, I bet with any long grain rice dish-or even just water, the oven method is not a bad method of cooking the rice. Brad

Big bowl of cereal hit the spot.

I have those evenings. My appetite has been coming and going. My version is a pile of 4% cottage cheese-well peppered, and a side of lunch-slice ham or turkey or roast beef, with a cracker or two. Brad
