Personaly i will stay with pistol ..non.magnum or +p loads...
Not a lot of.."meat" to that old action..
The new Lyman cast bullet book..says it can be pushed to 921 fps.. in loads fer older guns..
Plenty fer me..
N perfect fer a suppressor if i ever go that route..

I am hoping the regs on them wil get ..nixed in the future..

900 might not look like much on paper, but you will be amazed by the raw power and terminal performance.
This is unlike most most of the performance normally observed, it’s another realm.
For example, if you were in the unenviable situation that a large grizzly was charging head on, you hit him right, you won’t need to shoot twice. (Although I would recommend it)
Depending on what the bullet encountered, I truly believe it has the potential to penetrate clean through and leave an exit hole out of the back side.
This sounds very hard to believe, but you will see.
I came on this from an article written by Ross Seyfried in the early 90’s. I think I got the exact bullet he described.
Using magnum loads, I have read it has been used on elephant. I don’t recall the source, but I do remember reading this.

H110
It’s my understanding this powder is absolutely not safe for reduced loads. Can create excessive pressure.
At that time, we were not going for reduced loads, not at all.

Made my day to see this.
My dad liked Unique.
Actually, He liked every aspect of the sporting firearm world known to exist. He wrote a lot of articles, and had a couple published in Handloader magazine.
And, he was a gifted shooter.
Rifle, pistol and shotgun.
I know he would really like the things you are doing.

Pretty hot as it is. I’d leave it right there.
Do you ever test penetration in any manner? I used to use wet newspaper.

I recently got into black powder shooting. I have started with a 50 caliber rifle.
There’s a company that makes sabot covering.
They do make a sabot for a .45 to be used in a 50 caliber. Maybe I might give it a try.

I think you will have fun with this. Quite a bit of history with this old round, and for the rifle.

Yes i do have fun dooin this stuff..

Had to thread the barrel n set it back..

So the chamber needed to be reamed..

New breech block  with stronger pins..

Love the old reloading tools complete with the boolit mold too..

It is interesting history ..to me..

I halfta make an extractor for it but fer now the cleanin rod..pushes out the case.. in the pic is a pair of extractors..one for this rifle but fer a 25'20 rim..the other is fer a 44 1/2 model rifle...

Good projects to keep me buisy n..potendchally out of trouble.. ;0)

Need a front sight too..

Factory ammo for 30-30..
Too much pressure for this type of action..
32-40 factory ammo is loaded down to be safe in older guns...
Unless you buy ..High Speed ammo in 32'40...

Definitely.
I’ve been looking for a single shot 30-30 for a while now. Used to be a company that made one on a rolling block type of action. Wasn’t fancy at all, just basic stuff. I remember the rear sight could flip back and forth with one leaf slightly taller.
The were priced pretty reasonable.
I’ve got about a case of ammo and nothing to shoot it with.
