Picked up a barrel for a project i want to do..
An 1885 winchester falling block..
Sent out the action to be fit for all new parts..
Got this barrel on ebay..
The guy sellin it did not know the caliber nor chambering..but guessed it to be a 25-35 wcf..
I looked at all the pics..
N figgered it was a good guess from the seller..
But the bore looked smaller to me.. 219 zipper..or Wasp..?
Which would be ok to fer me..
So i took the chance on it...
It came..
I cleaned it up..it is in good shape..but is .22 cal.
Lookin in the chamber..with a good light..it did not..look to be a ..Zipper or..a .Dolaldson Wasp..
So.. i anealed a couple'ah casses i had that were used up pretty good..
N pressed 'em inta the chamber..
See in the pics..
Turns out to be a old wildcat cartridge of back in the day..
A .22-30-30 Al..i think ( Ackley Improoved) from P.O Ackley.
A rather famous wildcatter from years ago..
Anyhoo...
I am real content n hopin to get it up n runnin..
Might get 4000 fps out of it.
Kinda like the early day ..22-250 varminter.. :0)
Just the kinda stuff i like dooin.. :0)
You could probably make some iron sights, if you can’t locate some. Not many people could, I think you could do it.
A tang mount peep site would be really cool.
I’ve never heard of that wildcat cartridge, but it sounds promising.
I think the 7-30 Waters parent cartridge was a 30-30, and it is a great round.
I started something new, checkering. I’ve already ruined one rifle stock, but it was not in use and I knew it wasn’t going to turn out well. I might have to go through a couple more before I try it on something I use. I’ve got a really nice piece of claro walnut that I would like to use for my .257 Robert’s. But that’s a ways out for now.
Well..i made a case of the 22-303 wildcat..
Turns out it was used a lot down under..
I had allready fit the barrel to the reciver..so if i get an extractor blank..i can make one ..ease'ahly..
As you can see in the pics..
Itty-bitty bullet...whole'lotta powder..! :0o
The 303 Brittish parrent case next to it.

On another project..
I now have a neet garden gun..
The barrel i got on ebay..
Mostly done only had to cut fer the extractor slot fer me reciver..
357 maximum case there..
Just fired it..
Did real well..
Wanna cast up some .36 round balls..n try'em as this is a snooth bore barrel..
Kinda like a giant ..BB gun.. ;0)
Re thunk me project..
Modified a 22-250 chamber reamer i had..
N..cut a new chamber..
Bigger n badder noe..
N..i can reload the cases usin a set of 22-250 dies n a 30-40 krag full lenth die for the body..
Fired these cases..all works as it should..
The bore of this old barrel is .223..
I do have a cash of .223 copper jacketed bullets to play with..
But mostly shoot cast bullets in this barrel..
2400 fps..usin trail boss powder...
Probly push to 4000 fps with the jacketed ones..
3500 fer sure..
Collected stones early this mornin..
Looked at a couple jobs with me Son...
N...then in the heat of the day..hid out in the barn...
Got more stuff done on the gun project...
Gotta head space it next..
Then cut the extractor slot..
The 2 bugger things to do is gettin the main spring attatched..n..figger something fer a custom scope mount..
