WHAT THE ?!?!!?   I see Westman cable isn't carrying the NCAA Frozen Four.  ... briefly looked into live-streaming, but nothing meets my cheapskate requirement.  Looks like my week of anticipation will have to be assuaged by either American Cornhole League or Melita Jam and Dance.

Personally, I'd say 90% (or better) chance.

I don't follow things closely enuff, in particular analysts' analyses,  to even speculate.

I went to a couple of games when I wintered in AZ ,, over half the fans (3/4 full Gila Arena) were snowbirds,, & get this…. Blackhawks fans. If they ever went deep in the playoffs the snowbirds would be gone and they’d play to a half empty arena..imho

NHL is betting on the snowbirds - I'm amused that they're Blackhawk fans. I would have thought they'd be all over the northern tier - but then again, Noo Wingland snowbirds tend to think Florida, which is why the Panthers and Lightning draw good crowds. Thus, I think your point is very well taken.

There IS ample evidence that southern climes can draw crowds once they experience the speed and excitement of hockey at the NHL level. Which said: if there's one city in North America that SHOULD have an NHL team, it's SLC. That city knows how to enjoy winter - they've got some of the best skiing in the world on their doorstep, it's a rapidly growing market, they've done one Winter Olympics and are a shoe-in for one in the not-too-distant future.

That last will be interesting, because the team-seeking money in SLC plans to build an arena that can incorporate both NHL and Olympic ice.

I know that there's a huge jones up there in the Frozen North for another NHL franchise - I just don't see it happening unless it's someplace like Hamilton or another burgh not too distant from Toronto. NHL teams are fueled by money. It would be great to see a team in Quebec, but the population is too small to support a team at that level. Consider that Winnipeg is a Cup contender, has one of the smallest arenas in the league, and regularly can't fill it...

Well, what I meant by them being Blackhawks fans at that game is because they were playing the Coyotes those nights I went.
Snowbird population in Florida is much higher than in AZ, of course, it being on the east coast. Esposito banked on all the snowbirds filling the arena in Tampa when he started that franchise.
Your right, Skip, I don’t see a new NHL team in Canada in the near future,, Hamilton gets flack from the Toronto and Buffalo owners,, Halifax isn’t big enough or rich enough for modern day corporate season ticket holders. Ottawa has even had its problems.

Sounds like the Coyotes move to SLC is all but a done deal. Sportsnet is reporting that the team and staff will visit SLC promptly after their last game, which is Wednesday.

That was a beatdown last night, for certain.

The really curious thing this morning is that Brandon Bussi (G) was called up from Providence on an emergency basis yesterday. Why the Bruins think they need a third goaltender in town at this point has me baffled. Swayman played beautifully last night... makes me wonder if Ullmark might be hiding an injury.

Bussi IS a VERY good tendie... if rumors are accurate and Ullmark gets traded after the playoffs, he's the likely backup for Swayman going forward.
