This is absolutely awesome Jim and thanks so much, I've considered picking up a banjo and attempting to learn but never felt confident enough but have looked at you first 2 video's on youtube for the beginners I've finall taken the plunge and got myself a 5 string banjo!! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skill and more importantly giving an absolute beginner an understanding of this fantastic instrument, Cheers Jim
Hi "Jim Pankey here" -
I have just stumbled on your videos (coinciding with seeing/hearing rave reviews on here & Facebook). I'm a rank beginner (restarting after 10 yr hiatus & age 59) & I dont know much about much but I know you're a great guy to do this for the advancement of our common cause! Pick on! I'm gonna hafta bear down on my practices to absorb all the offerings! Thank you good Sir!

I got your PM this morning and e-mailed Eric Schlange. If you e-mailed eric slange, that's probably why you got no response.
You need to post your problem in the website problems and questions forum. I can't move your post to that forum, so you'll have to post a new one on the correct forum.
Hi Jim I am a 64 year old man with no musical interests.
After coming across your videos I have this week bought my first banjo it is a Barnes and Mullins Empress banjo and I am using your videos to help me play
So thank you Jim for giving a complete new interest especially after the year we have had I need this.
Kind regards Steve
Jim is seriously the best teacher! I absolutely started with no knowledge of the banjo but wanted to play a song so badly. Jim's Bluegrass Lessons are great. It took me about 2 months (daily to every other day practice) to FINALLY get through Cripple Creek. I finally played it for my hubbs yesterday and he said that he recognized the tune!! Now, to finesse the song! :)

I a'm basicly a beginner's banjo player, gave up after 6-9 months of frustrations. I tried some on line learning, not much results. Long story short. You're teaching method is relaxing and easy to learn. So happy to have found you/ I now am a subscribed member.
Thanks again

It's really amazing that you're willing to offer this additional instructional material for all of us.
THANK YOU!!!
I just finished watching your first lesson.
Wow, so your saying I can sing, or hum, about your baby in my arms, without having mastered at least twelve rolls for five years and just go ahead having a good time from the get-go? Like, really, I don't even need a $5,000 banjo to do that??? Just like a tiny baby trying to say "mama" without having had to study the abcies and/or their grammatic implications??? I don't even have to sound like Earl, or Don or Bela???
"Just have fun," how can that even be allowed??? Seriously???
Some may disagree with Jim's method but, dollars to donuts, anyone can be a campfire song hero before you know it following his awesome advise!

Originally posted by ashtin loraxIn the beginning, I've faced many issues to start to play bluegrass banjo. But recently, few months ago I've visited www.pickmybanjo.com and read their articles on how to play the bluegrass banjo and by surprise, I learnt a lot.
I recommend you to visit their website and read their articles to understand the banjo.
Glad that helped you.
However, this thread is about Jim Pankey's Banjo Backup Lessons, so pickmybanjo is off-topic.
