Yup, I first learned, or got acquainted with, this tune on a Mississippi John Hurt album in the late '60s and tried to copy it on guitar. I love your banjo rendition of it. Earlier tonight I rehearsed with the Pig's Eye Jass Band up here in St. Paul, Minn., where we're getting ready to play an evening at an Eagles Club in Minneapolis. One of the tunes on the list is "Creole Belles," a cakewalk written (I'm told) a century ago by a Minnesota composer, and it's the same song in a three-strain form (plus intro) that evokes a turn-of-the-century theater with a gaslit stage and a stodgy band playing with a vaguely ragtime sound. A great tune in either setting!
