My Missouri friends have been playing this tune alot ..... rags and tunes of this nature sound alot like Philly mummer tunes to me because I used to hang with the old Philly banjo players... I like this Washington County tune alot , sounds like an old college football tune or something .... Though , I like it more as a banjo tune .... I added my fiddle and guitar playing as a backup to the banjo on this one.

I revised this tune alittle ....my penny whistle playing was covering up my fishing line banjo too much .... since this is a banjo forum I should let the banjo ring out more clearly ..... I also added some guitar for good measure . Although trying to play a 5string banjo at a typical I-trad session is a re-tuning nightmare , I think the 5-string banjo has alot to offer for those wh love Irish music

Im at it again with the fishing line banjo ...this time using Don Whyteman's idea of tuning the banjo down low ... I know he likes this tune ...here I am playing it ad-lib tonight ... this tune warrents a good worked-up arrangement , if I ever begin to write banjo tab again , Ill surely work this tune out properly ...Dixie is such a great tune !! Backed myself up with the fiddle .... Dixie is a banjo tune that I think better suits banjo styles other then straight clawhammer or bluegrass styles ...the tune feels right to me, using my own funky banjo style

A question was asked on the new Irish banjo forum if anyone plays slow Irish banjo tunes ? I was just working on one this week .... although I didn't have sheet music for it , I think I came pretty close ..I also tried to play my fiddle in a harmony-kind of way on this lament

Here's 2 NJ Pineys on fiddle and guitar playing a gen-u-wine Ozark fiddle tune , while sitting on top of a gen-u-wine Ozark mountain ridge , getting smacked with a gen-u-wine Ozark mountain breeze ( that sound messing up the mic) ...we were playing with Don " Whyteman " , a gen-u-wine Ozark mountain banjo player from the hills of St.Louis and fellow BHO member.... hey Don, let's do that agin !

My guitar picking friend Kevin just sent me a file of him playing a tune from our old band ... I almost forgot how to play it - LOL ...... Peacock Rag ...we learned this from 90 yr. old fiddler Jody .... I thought that the fishing string banjo - Lin would sound cool on a rag .

I had so much fun with the Peacock Rag the other day that I pulled out my fishing string 5-string banjo tonight and tried some tricky ragtime with it .... now if I could only figure out the chords - ha I think I could get used to the cool sounds of classic banjo ....

I tried to find a clip of our Missouri jam with fellow BHO member Don " Whyteman " that featured his banjo playing and not too much wind interference ...Im going to have to be more careful with mics in windy jam situations ... the tune " Red Haired Boy " was called out by the guitar player , so Don and I tried to remember it on the fly , ha . I take responsibilty for the fiddle playing on this one

More fishing string experiments .... instead of a low tuning this time , I went the other way ....I put thinner fishing line on my short scale banjo ...its more like a banjolin now .... I thought it would drive me crazy being that high-pitched but its actually pretty cool ....hey, I can play bluegrass now , I can do the mandolin-up-chuck vamp with this baby .... I deliberately went up high on the neck so you could get the full dog-whistle effect ...just like when fiddlers move into those positions - LOL Im backing myself up with fiddle on this .... what do you think of the high banjolin pitch ?

Good Ol' St. Paddy's Day always gets us to pull out the Irish tunes ... I'm getting better at making recordings lately ... (I was getting background buzz in the usb mic I had bought .) I'm doing plenty of 2-finger rolls and some thumb-pick work on this one
