Another week's practice and a few more pages in YCTYB. I can play faster now but oh what a mess.. missed picks, timing off.. Next week maybe.

YCTYB page 35. A miserable 180bpm is all I could do (JD does it faster than my metronome goes and grins at the same time) ah well...

After 5wks it's a bit faster but I think I'm losing definition in the slides etc. Is this normal?

Trying to incorporate these G licks (YCTYB p 43). Are these licks as taught in this book "standard, well-known" licks or are they just the way JD teaches in the book?

I was planning on recording this at 120bpm but when I sat down in front of the mic, all fingers and thumbs :-( so a miserable 105bpm. Pathetic!

As suggested by JD, changed the C to Em of Sunnyvale Breakdown - it sort of sounds like FMB but well slow :-(

8 wks now - another 15bpm and that's as fast as I can manage. Lot's of muddy picking and timing is getting rough too. Ah well. Back to the metronome...

10wks into Janet Davis YCTYB book - this first effort is a bit slow but I found the new bits on D quite hard to get. I think I'll try to get this better - an interesting song

3 days off for RH pain. Now trying to pick more gently with more relaxed RH/arm. Its hard - 16weeks of a bad habit to correct!

After a complete 2week layoff to let my RH heal I've enjoyed getting back into Janet Davis YCTYB. Finding this one quite tricky. 19weeks into learning now. Slow progress.. :-(

My RH has stopped hurting almost completely so now I'm back to Janet Davis' YCTYB. Trying to get speed up on this one is, for me, very hard, the simple looking MIM is still messy.

This weeks effort features my new Deering Calico and my wife's $310 mando. Nearly 6months of learning now and I'm beginning to *almost* feel what it must be like to play proper Scruggs style - like a machine gun Janet Davis says... (mine sounds more like a rusty Gatling gun missing a few barrels and being turned by a wounded soldier :-( Ah well.. one day maybe)
