This is my entry into the world of Ruben variants. I play a Prust tackhead banjo in a "pinching" style, where everything is played off an off-beat bass drone on the 4th string, and the 5th is only used occasionally for colour. The string buzz is from a narrow piece of paper woven between the strings at the bridge, and the accompanying rhythm is played with a kazoo, a ballpoint pen and a fanta bottle. :)

Someone said you shouldn't pick a banjo like a guitar...I disagree. I wrote this thing snd the words to it; infidelity, murder, regrets...I may "sing" them sometime.

This is a tune that I wrote myself, after I read an article about prison escapes. The only prison that I have ever personally been to is Walla Walla here in Washington state, but it didn't sound cool, so I chose the now-defunct Brishy Mountain prison in Tennessee, which both has a cool name and which I've seen relatively up close.

I'm working on a faux-radio documentary to work on my recording skills; it's basically interviews and info about a fictional rural area in the Appalachians...I do all the voices and the picking. Just for fun. :)

One of my personal fave recordings of myself; I recorded it for an Appalachian audio horror project that I was working on, and the banjo had just a wonderful tone. Incidentally, I've posted it in various locations under the pseudonym of "Eldon Bird", a fictional banjo player from the 20's, and have fooled some well known oldtime musicians...but I won't name any names, to protect the innocent.
