Been playing guitar and (a little) banjo for many years. In 2006, I started making 5-string cigar box banjos and some electric cigar box guitars after hearing Richard Johnston at a blues fest. With an increasing number of these little banjos around the house, I found it easy to pick one up at any moment and plink around, composing simple tunes which I eventually recorded on the computer using Audacity (free recording software) and a $1 microphone from Dollar Tree. Found my musical identity! Finally decided to make my home-grown "Cigar Box Banjo" CD "official" by putting it out there on cdbaby.com. Sales figures show a 400% increase since it came out (meaning: four people actually bought it)! Would love to become more proficient at clawhammer, which is one of the reasons I'm here. So many great players to learn from!
