Born in the mid north town of Clair South Australia and raised on the family farm near Snowtown. My introduction to music was Dad & Mum playing guitar and Sunday nights was jam night. We had friends & family come over for sing along jam sessions. From country, folk to bluegrass. Pete Seeger, Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Tex Morton, the list of whose songs we sung was endless. At 13 years old I started playing guitar and soon went onto learning banjo and mandolin. I moved from the country to Adelaide to persue a music career and joined differnt bands in country music. My last band in Adelaide was my own. Honky Stomp was a four piece bluegrass band with Ron Williams on banjo, Graham Cross on guitar, Glen Stoker on bass and myself on mandolin. In my solo career, I became a finalist in the 1993 Tamworth Starmaker Quest, the year Beccy Cole won it. The trip to Tamworth changed my life with being introduced to award winning song writer Heather Field. Heather had co written songs with the likes of Keith Urban, James Blundell, Rick Price and many more. Later that year I took a trip to Sydney to write some songs with Heather and within 6 month I chose to move to Sydney. I now have my own band called Dwayne Elix & The Engineers, working the Sydney club scene and rural tours. I still persue a solo career and perform on many country music festivals. At festivals I perform with my banjo and also perform at Hank Williams tribute. I have released around 28 albums to date. 8 of those albums are bluegrass and working on the 9th one right now. On my bluegrass albums I perform all instruments, vocals and harmonies. Instruments are banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, Dobro, fiddle, accordian, and sometimes a snare drum. Someday when I retire I want to settle on the sea front bay of Port Broughton SA. With a big porch, a rocking chair, my banjo and a fishing rod.
