2016 Banjo Gathering

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

I'm extremely honored and humbled to say that I will be presenting at the 2016 Banjo Gathering on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 4:00 pm.  I'll be presenting a bit about who I am and why I got into building.  I will also be talking about Jenes Cottrell's build techniques, how I've been influenced by his builds, how I've let my artistic voice come out while paying respect, and future endeavors in banjo building.  With as new as I am to banjo building, I can't believe that I'll be presenting to some of the best builders out there.

If you are going to the gathering, look me up I'd love to chat and meet some of you in person!

****I am very much interested in teaching banjo at week-long workshops such as Allegheny Echoes, Augusta, Cowen Creek, Mars Hill, both domestically and internationally. Please contact me at if interested. I been playing banjo a while now. The tunes that interest me the most are Central West Virginia tunes that people aren't playing much. I learned to play banjo primary from Ben Townsend (5 years) and Tim Bing (4 years). However, I've spent a lot of time learning from Andrew Dunlap, David O'Dell, and Jimmy Costa. I've also spent some time learning from from Reed Martin, John Morris, and John Blisard on my trips to their homes. I'm interest in playing gigs and square dances as well as teaching workshops anywhere. In addition to my playing, I also build banjos in the style of Jenes Cottrell. I've spent the past 6 years researching Jenes, documenting his banjos, and consulting with his former apprentice. It has been an amazing opportunity and I have gotten to develop some wonderful friendships through this journey. If you are interest in banjos lessons or commissioning me to build a banjo, please contact me at
