Allen Shelton Passing

Thursday, December 10, 2009

One of the great pickers, and "THE" blueprint for banjo sound of Jim and Jesse. Just like JD Crowe was for Jimmy Martin. Both tough acts to follow. One of my banjo heros just like many of you. I never met him, but when I think about him all I can see is a great big smile! I also get a little sad and worried because the pioneer's of bluegrass are going away one by one, I know that's life, but will the soul of the music go with them too? I think so to some degree. I love all of you pioneer's of the music and want to tell you all. My heart felt sympathy to all the family and friends, Allen was a class act.

I play banjo for Fern Hill for the past six years or so. Also played banjo for northwest bands, Sawtooth Mt. Boys, Old Friends, Southern Sounds of Bluegrass, Muddy Bottom Boys, and Sam Hill to name a few. I have opened for Bill Monroe Twice, as well as Nashville Bluegrass Band. I try to play straight Scruggs/ Crowe Style.
