what happened to the cost price of banjos? In 1991 I bought a RB-4 for 1864.00 with a case. Now that banjo would be around 5000.00 or so. How can that be?

It's just like everything else -- it's gone up with inflation and not gone down with deflation.

Don't look at the dollar cost.......look at the total amount of hours you must work to pay for it. For example, back in 1974, gas was around .35 to .50 per gal. I was making 2.00 an hour. I had to work about 15 min to buy a gal of gas. Today, at gas around 2.79 and lets say I made 15.00 an hour. I now have to work about 11 min to buy a gal.........ok...my math may be a bit fuzzy....: ) but you get the idea. Inflation................-
