First "accidental" jam session today.

Saturday, November 29, 2008

So it just so happens I break my last set of strings right before the holiday, go figure. Anyway I had to go to this place in historic downtown McAlester to get some. So I stroll on in and to my suprise there were pickers just having some good old fashion fun. Well Jeff (the owner of the store) and I got to talking and he asked if I wanted to join in. And to which I replied I have no JO or picks. Well It's just the nice fellow Jeff is, he said go grab one of the wall and here are some picks. Well for it being my first jam with other musicians I think it went incredibly well. My breaks were on spot and well I think I did alright at back-up defanitily could improve a great deal. but I showed myself that I can get up there without knowing the songs and at least back the rest up. I also learned a lot in the few short hours that i was there. They were some talented people too. I couldn't believe they were so nice and all. There was this one guy who strolled in a bit after I showed up who was just one of those guys who could pick up and play anything. Man he could that fiddle extremly well. Then out of nowhere here is on banjo wailing! Just watching and listining to him taught me tons. It was a great experience and I can't wait to go to another! I wish I would have known some more of the songs they were playing. But hey at least I was on when it was my turn to pick :) 2 comments

Just started a few weeks ago but I have been playing guitar for a few years and bass even longer. I got into bluegrass a few years ago when I went to a festival and saw some guy wailing on that OL' banjo pretty well, it was the greatest thing these ear's have ever heard. I also just started trying to play the fiddle...hope it all goes well and thanks to everyone here, I've already learned tons thanks to you guys/gals...
