Born in Oregon, lived briefly in Oklahoma and Idaho in early school years. Grew up in S.F. Bay area, where I became interested in old time fiddle and banjo music in my just-out-of- college years. Bought my fiddle in a pawn shop for $100, including bow. It's still the one I play. Bought my banjo from a friend and old-time musician in East-Bay fiddle circles. I don't play banjo that much, I'm primarily a fiddler. I Moved to Canada 12 years ago, married a lovely gal who also likes old-time. We have a beautiful 9 year old daughter who says fiddle and banjo music is "boring", but who I think secretly likes it. Recently returned to playing music on a regular basis after a 10 year layoff due to "family responsibilities", work schedules, schooling, and so on- you know, the usual encumbrances. Recently played for a family contra and square dance with some neighbours and jamming buddies, it was my first dance in a long time, and it was fun.
