I've always been fairly good at three things: art, music and sports. In school, I played the alto saxophone in nearly every band. I also played guitar and piano a bit. So, I did have quite a lot of musical experience before I even picked up a 5-string in 1973. This was after getting excited to play when "Dueling Banjos" was a huge hit. I went out and rented a cheap banjo from a music store in Chicago and bought Pete Wernick's book "Bluegrass Banjo." It took, so I bought the rented instrument for $100. I taught myself with the aid of Wernick's book, and then bought Tony Trischka's "Melodic Banjo" and Earl Scruggs' book. In 1979, I bought a used Aida but ended up selling it because I was desperate for money. Without a banjo for a few years, I bought a pretty good Epiphone for $400 from Rooster in Amarillo, Texas in 1986. I have always wanted a Mastertone (Pete, Tony and Earl played one!!!) and I finally bought my 1977 RB250 in 2006 on eBay. I have played off and on over the years for fun so it's not like I've been a serious musical aspirant or performer or anything. My main focus has always been painting. I also play guitar and sing, and fiddle just a bit. I'm a professional artist. My paintings can be seen on Facebook at Seebach Fine Art.
