Banjo and Fiddle Books??

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Hey folks!

My wife is a fiddle player and we could use some music books to help us learn some tunes together. I'm a beginner at banjo but she's a pretty good violinist (er, I mean fiddle-ist). I found Wayne Erbson's "Southern Mountain" series as one option but wanted to put the question to the community. Any recommendations for books with banjo tab and fiddle melody lines? Lyrics would be bonus. Thanks in advance!

I am a classical pianist but have always loved American/Early American music, particularly the banjo. This year I decided to make a dream a reality and bought my first instrument. I'm using Ken Perlman's book and videos to get started. I really like the clawhammer style. My wife is a clasically trained cellist who has a passion for fiddle. We hope to someday (when my young sons are older) have a "The V. Family String Band"! I also hope to someday in the next few years get a better banjo...
