Ok...I posted my first tune on You Tube. I've been playing about a month and learning with Ken Perlman's book/DVD set. I realize there are a few wrong notes but I posted it partly as a joke for my brother (He described me, at my wedding, as his "Kite-flying, Bird-watching, Piano-playing brother; I wanted him to be able to add "Banjo-picking to it as well!) and partly to motivate me to practice more. Even now, just a few days after recording/posting the video, I am playing the tune more accurately. I capo'd my long neck banjo up for the recording but don't have any way to capo the 5th string yet (hope to install spikes soon) so that's how it sounds. Now I like to play it without the capo to enjoy the low sounds the long neck provides. But...I'm beginning to think I need a better banjo...!
It's been great being a member of Banjo Hangout. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragment! ~Norman
