Was at a old time music festival with my dad Don Buedel down in West Plains Mo back in 1998. Heard my dad and a bunch of otheir people playing clawhammer banjo and thought this old time music is pretty good. After the festival I asked my dad to show me how to play the banjo. he showed me how to play cripple creek on a old Washburn tenor banjo that still had the 4 string neck on it and converted it to a 5 string banjo. Few years later I purchased the album Old & in the way and started getting into Scruggs Style picking. Then I started picking up the guitar and mandolin. I also started getting into building banjos. Tryed building a banjo back in 2000 and messed up the neck. A few years later I moved to St. Louis Mo and took some classes at the Midwest Guitar School. Refretted and reset up this old Sigma guitar i bought for $75 at this flea market in Southern Mo. Finished that project and ask the teacher at Midwest Guitar School if I could build a open back banjo. He did not have any banjo making books since he had never tryed building banjo. So I told him I had a book that Roger Siminoff wrote "Constructing a 5 String banjo". Took a few years to get the banjo done. I still have that banjo and it plays very well. For my first banjo I am pretty happy. In the process of building a few more to sell and I am going to try to build a Pete Seeger Long neck banjo.
